COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The elusive brew is made from pilsner malt and amber malt with an original gravity of 26.5?P, yielding an 11% abv. It's hopped with Warrior and Glacier varieties. Primary fermentation takes place in open vessels using two yeast strains, one American and one English. For added complexity, the beer is conditioned on barrel staves of French Oak for four months before being dry hopped with Glacier at the rate of a half-pound per barrel. This elixir is then blended 50/50 with 90 Minute IPA. After blending, the beer will measure 80 IBU and 10% abv. Bottled in corked bottles through Michael Jackson’s rare beer club by late November 04 and available in 12 ounce full distribution in early January 05.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a clear medium amber that had a slight yellow hue around the edges of the glass with a large (2-3 finger) rocky white head that was mostly lasting and had excellent lacing. The aroma was heavy of herbal hops, caramel malts and a sweet yeast with hints of oak, honey and citrus (Grapefruit and maybe a little orange). It tasted mildly sweet and a little acidic with a nice caramel note in the beginning. Then progressed into a hoppy-bitter-sour flavor with a nice citrus note and a mild alcohol finish, which left the flavor lingering for a good long time after the swallow. Mouthfeel was just a tad under medium in body with the texture being smooth and creamy and having a very nice soft carbonation. Overall a fantastic Imperial IPA that has a nice mix of sweet and hoppy with a nice citrus undertone. I really enjoyed this brew, even though I am just starting to appreciate hoppy brews.

Light Belgian-style florals. Pours with good head, cloudy yellow with some lacing. Has light clove and some banana. Soft carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet with good balance. Alcohol very well-hidden, beer nicely balanced. On tap at Blue Monk.

From bottle. Dark golden color. Aroma of sweet malt, toffee, citrus hops. Really complex flavor of spiced, citrusy hops, sweet caramel, light bitterness, and some woodsy notes. Finishes hoppy and resinous, very pleasing.

Not too hoppy but it isn't very smooth. It is a perfect blend just like everything else by Dogfish Head. Great beer to have on hand. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden amber pour. Medium fluffy off white head. Highly complex aroma. Dank hops. Pine. Alcohol burn. Yeasty. Lots of bready toasty malt aroma. Dried dark fruits like raisin and plum. Big mouthfeel. Yeast and alcohol hit out of the gate. British style from open fermentation. Relaxes into a more traditional big ipa with lots of dank hop flavors and caramel malt sweetness. Pretty dry finish with some roastiness. ---Rated via iPhone

Bottled 10-16-2009 As you would expect there is no hop presence remaining. It's malty and a bit fruity not unlike some vintage barley wines that I have had. I prefer fresh to this but I don't have vintages in between to compare. Maybe I will crack a 2012 in 2014 and revisit this review. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Really nice beer. Pours amber with a quickly dissipating head and no lacing. Clear. Nose is toffee and earthy. Aromas of dark fruit, toffee, earthy hops. Tastes are medium sweet with medium to heavy bitterness. Leaves nice sweet and bitterness in the mouth for a long time. Very full body with lively carbonation. Very solid effort.

A - Hazy burnt orange/brown with an off-white head that dissipates into a thin cap with a thick collar. S - Creamy orange wrapped with soft oak wood. Sweet caramel malt blankets over citrus and passion fruit. Sweet scotchy alcohol. T - Rich malt surrounded by nutty oak along with an acidic citrus fruit. Alot going on all at once. Sweetness comes out in the middle. Sugary peaches, muted mango, and hints of apples and vanilla. Hops start to build back up toward the finish and provide a tame bitterness. Finishes with leafy green hops dipped in alcohol with the oak adding dryness. Aftertaste is of citrus and hints of oak. M - Full, rich, moderate tight carbonation, silky in the middle, heavy and light at the same time. Perfect! The oak has good presence from start to finish. It seems to really help mask the alcohol. Oak doesn’t always work but really brings the flavors and aromas together here. Hops play there part and aren’t overdone. Very well done. Serving type: bottle 03-26-2011

12 oz bottle. Pours a murky amber color with a quickly dissipating almond colored head. Aroma of pine and citrus hops and some tropical fruits and caramel. Taste is loaded with pine and citrus hops. A bit of oak and tropical fruits. Full-bodied. Very thick and rich. Like a syrup almost. Very dry bitter finish. A pretty nice DIPA.
