3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle.
It pours a hazy reddish/copper/brown with a big fluffy off-white head that sticks for a good while and recedes to nice lacing.
The smell is incredibly malty with a huge blast of caramel, i mean an absolute blast. The oak is second fiddle, as are the hops. I would have preferred more wood and hops in a wod aged ipa, not just caramel.
The flavor is super malty but seems to be less carmally and more focused on the wood and the hops. The oak is evident in the flavor with some smooth vanilla tones, the hops could be greater but they provide a nice flavor. The malt is carmally but also with a hint of breadiness.
There are many more DIPAs that I woudl reach for but for a wood-aged IPA it is not bad.

Enpä kirjoittanut tästä oluesta mitään muuta ylös kuin osa-aluepisteet. Erinomainen olut, joka tapauksessa!

Bottled. Pours clear amber with a medium sized, lacing off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and nice bitter and with alcohol notes. Medium bodies, oily text.. and soft carb. An excellent 2 x IPA.

A bit of a surprise. I was expecting this to be a milder form of Doom. This is not strong at all. It does have floral and fruit to it. The barrel age flavor is very subtle to nonexistent. It does not have a strong hop bite. It is creamier than expected from any IPA. It is creamy, citrusy (grapefuit), floral. It goes from one taste to another, finishing with an IPA taste that probably is from the 90min, but does seem lighter.
I do like this beer....but was expecting something more.

Sweetness from the oak-aged thread comes through on the nose right along with the hops you'd expect from Dogfish Head. Leaves me with the impression that this is a really smartly made brew (or just awesome coincidences masquerading as such). The clue to the genius is the mixing of the young IPA with the oak aged. I may prefer this over 100% wood aged beers, but I will have to test that theory. Mouthfeel is perfect, as is the hops, which is almost restrained in terms of DH. I'm enjoying this one with some spicy dal, and the oak-tinged sweetness plus hops make it a very fine companion.

Dogfish Head Burton Baton is good but not up to the hype. Not much aroma coming from an amber pour with a nice head. Taste is mostly tropical fruit but bitterness gets in the way. Aftertaste is a bitter after glow. Burton Baton is good but the competition is stiff in this category.

Nice sweet oaky IPA. Grapefruit, tart apple in the nose. Sweet fruity and tropical hops with slight vanilla from the oak. Medium body. Tasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Part of a tasting 11/24/2013 at Fraser’s Pub in Ann Arbor. The pour is a dark ruby-ish gold with a very thin head, and no lace to speak of. Initially, this is very heavy on the hops on the nose. The floral properties in the hops are what really stand out on this one. The flavor is very hoppy, like the nose is. It’s good, but so much like a traditional IPA, that it’s not really spectacular. The bourbon barrel comes through in a little taste but mostly a vanilla characteristic on the finish.

A very interesting IPA. This ones blended with the 90 minute so that’s got to mean atleast three different yeast strains. There’s a bit of sweetness to this one.
