2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
To be honest this was a stretch beer for me. Not a style I typically enjoy but the wine/grape notes made this so cloyingly sweet I couldn’t drink it. Not my favorite. No offense to Dogfish, much respect but this was a miss for me.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber pours straw color with a nice wispy head. Smells of wine straight away, then honey. This is the Cerberus of beers: a three-headed giant hound - part beer, part wine, part something else - only not guarding the gates of the Underworld, but guarding everyone from a strict definition of beer. Overall, as a beer, it’s too winey, as a wine, it’s too beery, but as a newly formulated beverage it’s a pleasant creation.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Light body, mild flavor, high heat, spritzy, honeyed finish, avg length.
Sweet, mildly, no bitterness.
Not much to say about it except that the concept is interesting.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Interesting beer and concept but not impressive in taste. A little thin due to the rice but a good warmth from the honey and a slight grape hinge.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Totally unusual aroma in a golden pour. Taste is similarly exotic - but eminently drinkable. That may be an issue (given the strength).

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20

Pours a clear dark gold with heavy white sediment. A sweet citrus, light malt, pine, and honey. A very sweet taste of honey, pine, citrus, and alcohol. A lingering sweet taste.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750ml bottle, from Dutch’s. Bottled 1/12/15. Clear orange golden color. Thin white head, kind of bubbly. Lots of fine particles suspended in the body. Some ropes of lace. Fades to a minimal ring, then virtually nothing. Honey comes through first, up front, some grape sweetness and bigger other earthy fruit (hawthorn fruit?). Definite rice type malt. Bready. Some orange citrus, strange yeast note. Bigger sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Significant sweet bite to it. Bigger body. Somewhat sharp, kind of soft, lighter kind of crisp carbonation. Sort of interesting up front, but honestly 1/4 of the way in it just ends up drinking like a malt liquor. A tasty, interesting malt liquor, that hides the 9% alcohol just as good as the Beer Thousand malt liquor did. Reminds me quite a lot of that beer actually. The eh part of all this, though is $12 for a 25oz’r? of (decent, but still) malt liquor? Started at 3.4.. dropped as I progressed. Definitely the most unimpressive Ancient Ale I’ve tried so far.
