Similar to a beer brewed in China some 9,000 years ago, Chateau Jiahu used a recipe that included rice, honey, and grape and hawthorn fruits. The formula was obtained from archaeologists who derived it from the residues of pottery jars found in the late Stone Age village of Jiahu in northern China. The residues are the earliest direct evidence of brewed beverages in ancient China.

On tap at the gaithersburg brewpub. Very interesting flavors--lots of spices, fruit and coriander. I found it overpoweringly sweet, though. An unbalanced body that I only wanted a bit of.

On the Brick Store Pub cellared sampler. Interesting combination of grape and honey. Sweet. Medium full body. Not sure I want it again, but fun to sample.

golden to light amber color; fruity aroma; fruity, spicy flavor; spicy up front with a grape aftertaste; a bit like a saison with grape notes; I might prefer it a bit less fruity

Bomber pours straw color with a nice wispy head. Smells of wine straight away, then honey. This is the Cerberus of beers: a three-headed giant hound - part beer, part wine, part something else - only not guarding the gates of the Underworld, but guarding everyone from a strict definition of beer. Overall, as a beer, it’s too winey, as a wine, it’s too beery, but as a newly formulated beverage it’s a pleasant creation.

Clear amber. Light body, mild flavor, high heat, spritzy, honeyed finish, avg length. Sweet, mildly, no bitterness. Flowery. Not much to say about it except that the concept is interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Interesting beer and concept but not impressive in taste. A little thin due to the rice but a good warmth from the honey and a slight grape hinge.
