Very delicious and coffee like stout. Very drinkable and easy to drink. A little stouty, but infinitely drinkable.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Had potential, but I just couldn't hang with this one. Got the coffee but it was oddly bitter with the chickory taking over and then the finish was somewhat salty. I'd prefer a smoother overall stout.

(Bottle) Pours a thin, brown, frothy head and an opaque body. Nose of licorice, cocoa and coffee. Thin, carbonated texture. Coffee flavour with a chocolate undertone. Some tart berries in there? Good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2004 Dark brown with ruby highlights. A huge but diminishing tan head. Huge coffee coffee aroma with other notes of bittersweet chocolate, roast and molasses. Medium light watery body with lively carbonation. Flavor is also filled with coffee, but also includes bittersweet chocolate, molasses, licorice, and a hint of sour fruit - maybe blackberry. Not quite the body that I normally enjoy in stouts, but still an excellent beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A bit different from the usual stouts I drink...coffee and chocolate aroma, flavor heavier on the coffee than most stouts I've had. Nice opaque near-black color with a nice tan head. A quality stout.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sweet aroma of chocolate and toffee overtones. Dark but not black color with dark large head and good lacing. Flavor was smoking chocolate and coffee with some hints of hops. Full mouth feel and creamy tones across the palate that last. A very good stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is of molassas, coffee, and reminds me of a gingerbread man as well. It pours nicely with fairly good lacing, and a thick, long lasting cream colored head. First taste, not that great. The smell and the taste contradict one another, with the taste reminding me of a strong alkaline, sour and bitter. Overall you get a stale coffee aftertaste and it is only OK to drink. Probably won't make a second purchase.
