Good aroma, one of the best looking beers I have ever poured, and a pretty good taste for a relatively low abv. Definately get some of the coffee, and a little cocoa. I can taste just a hint of the chicory spice, but it fades quickly. The while thing faded away quickly actually. Clean drinking, easy and solid Porter.

A strong but not overpowering coffee tasts with just a hint of licorice. The head is thick and the aroma memorable. This is a great beer to pare with a hearty stew.

At tap House in Des Plaines. Pretty good stuff very smooth, coffee and licorice flavors come through but thankfully the licorice is somewhat mild. Not sure what taste I’m looking for with St John’s wort. Serving: Tap

From a bottle into a shaker. Pours dark with thin creamy tan head. Strong coffee notes balanced with mellow caramel sweetness. Similar flavor profile with a nutty chicory finish ... A very good coffee stout.

Couleur noir acajou avec une petite mousse brunâtre. Mousse a rétention limitée, mais laisse une dentelle durable. Arôme et saveur agréable de café, malt noir, sucré avec un petit houblonnage mi amer !! Exellente

A very nice coffee stout. Black in color with a medium tan head. Aroma is pleasant coffee and malts. Not overly strong or overly bitter but still has good coffee notes. Nice nutty notes also.

Pen & Paper Log (Oct 2012) Aroma - full coffee, chocolate, and roast aromas Appearance - body is very dark brown almost black, it’s opaque, the head a tan brown that turns into a halo in quick order Taste - the taste is coffee flavor with a firm astringent bitterness from the smoky nature. There is also some licorice present Palate - body is full, the texture slick and thick, the carbonation appropriate for the style, and the finish smooth with a nice roast astringency.

Bottled, 0.355l, shared with CanCrusher. Pours almost black with thin creamy light brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of heavy roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and caramel. Taste starts with sweet and sour liquorice / chicory, follows by sweet chocolate and strong coffee, while finish is light herbal hoppy. Full body, creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Very interesting stout...

Pours a black color with a coffee aroma. Taste has a slight hickory wood chip taste mixed with rich rosated coffee. A simple flavored stout that dissipates quckly but lingers on the palate. A smooth beer that was enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Roasty aroma. Flavor of roast and dark coffee. Palate is pretty light for a stout, but I guess that makes sense at only 5.2%. Just picked up this four pack in the last month, but see that it has a 2012 date on it. That probably doesn’t help a light beer like this one. Still though it is a nice beer. If there is such thing as a session stout then I guess this would qualify. Its a nice option. Certainly could drink a couple of these without any aftereffects.
