Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. 12 ounce bottle- pours out typical dark brown with a moderate brown head. Aroma was coffee, malt with a sour undertone. Taste was similar with a woody touch and a slightly bitter after taste. Palate was a little on the thin side. Not bad, but there are better.

Pours dark reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long chocolate, roasted, coffee and cocoa finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the brewpub. Close to black in the glass, with a dense light tan finger thick head on top. Roasted aroma with coffee and some charcoal. Nice piney addition too. There’s a nice bitterness in the flavor, with roasted malts, some coffee and bonfire. Dry, full-bodied and smooth on the palate. Long finish with a nice blend of malts and hops. Lovely, especially considering the abv. 150621

APPEARANCE - black beauty with light nougat colored head - not white As indicated on the bottle. NOSE - extraordinarily complex nose. Malt sweetness with a good balance of bitterness - pribBly from the coffee. FLAVOR - heavy bitter notes right off the top. Totally coffe as it warms up a bit. Slightly sweet malt background in the inital sips.

12oz bottle. Dark brown pour with medium brown head (into Spiegelau stout glass). Aroma of chocolate malt, coffee and earthy aroma (I presume that is from the chicory). Some peppery (chicory) flavor but mainly a dry earthy stout. Paired very well with dinner (chicken teriyaki). I think this beer would sell better if they called it Dogfish Head Stout, I think the Chicory in the name unnecessarily scares off the casual craft beer shopper (not me- I am more of a formal craft beer customer).

Pours a bubbly ruby-black with an average size light-brown head. Aroma of malt, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, spices, hops and a little sourness. Smells wonderful. Flavour follows the aroma but is a little mild-- it needs a little more bite. Medium body with a smooth finish.

A good dark beer with lots of coffee/chicory flavor. Sweet taste, malts overtake the hops. Medium body, not too thick. Tried this a while back so basing this review on memory, but I do remember liking this more than most other coffee stouts I tried. Not sure if I’d buy it again though for the price, as its on the lower side for ABV%, and I prefer slightly heavier stouts in the 6-8% range. Glad I tried it though, as I am becoming a fan of DFH.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Opaque black pour with a big tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, grilled greens, pepper, star anise and toasted spices. Medium body. Tastes more of the same with roasted coffee and more spice coming out as it warms up. Bold and flavorful...can’t believe this is only 5%.

Not a huge fan. The color is a bit dark and the flavor is strong but not my cup of tea
