COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chicory Stout is a rich, dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. It is brewed with roast barley, crystal malt and oats and hopped just right with Glacier hops. We use fair trade Organic Mexican Coatepec beans roasted to our specifications by Notting Hill Coffee Roastery in Lewes, DE.

Bottle. Pours a nice deep brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of rich malt, coffee, and a touch of dark fruit. The flavor has similar notes, plus a touch of (what I assume to be) chicory, and a yeast/bready finish that isn’t great. Pretty good overall, though not something I’d be in a rush to seek out again.

Powerful coffee nose. Pours a beautiful dark black but head disappeared quickly. -Quite ’thin’ on the palate and strong coffee and burnt smokey (chicory?) flavors overpowering everything else. Wont be rushing back for more.

Pours very dark, lot of coffee chocolate chicory (obviously) dominate this stout. Impressive depth and richness for a stout, from the flavor profile you would expect it to be an imperial.

Pours a decent dark chocolate colour with a minimal coffee-coloured frothy head that disappears fairly quickly. The aroma is coffee and chicory-forward – it’s quite distinct - with roasted dark malts and some coffee grounds rounding out the background. Flavours are also coffee and chicory focused, overwhelming the licorice or other ingredients suggested by the notes above. Roasted oak and other earthy tones are present in the finish, which is nicely dry and lingers for an impressive length of time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Decent brew but I had this after I drank a Workd Wide Stout. Kinda ruined it for me.

On tap, pours a really dark brown color with a medium tan head that leaves good lacing. Smells of coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate and black licorice. Tastes of all the same things in the smell with a slight spicy wood flavor I’m assuming is the Chicory. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with great carbonation. Overall this is a great coffee stout but all the other things going on flavor wise mute the coffee flavor a bit. Still a solid Dogfish beer all around.

Bouteille de 12oz. Merci Patrick. Bière brune foncée presque noire avec une mousse beige foncée. Au nez d’intenses notes de café, de cendrier, de chocolat, de caramel. Bouche particulière avec du chocolat, des épices. Finale sur une drôle d’amertume. Produit particulier.

I’d be reluctant to have this marked out as a session beer, I think that the overall impression of sweetness would make it a difficult ask after a few. If you were working through a few beers in a evening with friends this would be a magnificent part of that journey, it offers a lot to talk about and mull over., and you’d need a couple because it’s just that nice. I would recommend this to friends and I would buy it again.

Dark brown, clear, tan head. Big coffee nose with some chocolate as well. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, cocoa, a cinnamon-like spiciness (possibly from the chicory, which I'm not familiar with), a little licorice and an earthy note. Has a biscuity dryness at the end. Interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
