COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Diane is a hoppy dark ruby hued saison style ale. The seven different types of malt used in this beer lend a rich nutty malt backbone that finishes dry and clean without cloying sweetness. Three varieties of hops were added to this brew: Warrior, Amarillo, and Saaz, which give Diane a mix of citrus and spicy herbal hop notes. Roughly a pound of fresh hops grown right outside in our hop garden were also added to this brew. Finally two yeast strains were employed to ferment the beer, both our own Doggy yeast and a classic Farmhouse Saison strain, which added light fruit and subtle spice notes. The result is like Belgian Saison meets English Dark Mild, a highly quaffable ale with both the malty and hoppy notes like that of the famous ales from the Mother Country and the fruity spice notes of classic Farmhouse ales. Diane is a great pairing with any of our Great Beginnings, a burger, or the Short Rib entre.

Tap at DFH. Pours clear brown with a large, frothy light tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy and grain malt, spicy hops, nutty notes and light fruit esters. Flavor is malt dominant with earthy and nutty notes, spicy rye, light hops and medium bitterness with a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.

Tap. Pours dark amber with thin, creamy off-white head; short retention and good lacing. Aroma is floral and grassy hops, mixed nuts, figs, pears, caramel malts, and light spice. Flavor is sweet malt initially, but quickly dries out with bitter fruit esters (grapefruit mostly) and floral hops; dry finish. Light/medium body and low carbonation.

On tap at Rehoboth brewpub. Dark amber pour with frothy head. The nose and the upfront flavor was a rich nuttiness. Lots of floral hops and and nice dry spicy finish. Im not sure I even could have guessed "saison" here, but it was still a nice beer. A good balance of complexity, strong flavor and drinkability.

Nice ruby-copper color. Mild floral aroma. A bit of an astringent almost soapy finish. Not one of my favorites.

Draft at brewpub. Pours ruby red with a thin khaki head. Slight hop note on the nose. Big floral hops on the tongue. A lot of flavor for such a low abv. I get some of that Saison on the background but the hills are the best part. Lingers a bit in the finish. Nice!

On tap @ the Brewpub-Dark amber pour w/a moderate, foamy head. Roasted malt aroma. Flavors of roasted malt & nuts, some yeast, but had some hop bite as well. Sounds like it could have been a bit of a confused mess, but it actually worked out OK. Easy sipping brew, packed in a lot of flavor for such a low alcohol brew. Found it quite enjoyable.

Serving: Draft at the brewpub in Rehoboth. It pours a deep gold color. The flavor seems almost ESB like. Slight florals, lasting bitterness. Very dry finish. Seems to lack yeast character that I normally associate with the style, but the folks at DFH always do things differently. Decent but not one Im likely to return to.
