Purchased at a local Canal’s while attempting to finish the small list I have left of DogFish Head’s occasional rarities.
2009 bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours an orange to red color with a sound of carbonation escaping much like a soda. The head was rather non existent and quickly cleared. Resembles a darker apple juice color.
The smell has a raspberry scent with a stronger wine smell to it. You can smell the alcohol in this. Rather pleasant for a wine drinker, not so much for a beer drinker.
Rather carbonated, with a strong foretaste of raspberries, rather sweet. A flavor resembling a malty ale is smothered in between that and an alcohol flavored finish. Not very balanced.
This is a decently thick feeling beer, a somewhat syrup feel.
This beer is definitely not very drinkable. It’s something I would drink for desert with a cheesecake, for instance.

I’m not a big fruit-beer drinker, but this one was really good. Incredibly strong, (This is a MAN’S chick beer!!!) but no overbearing alcohol taste, just a nice full bodied ale with raspberry sweetness on top.

Bottle courtesy of daknole; thanks again, Dak. Pours a cloudy reddish-caramel with a thin beige head. The nose is of boozy, raspberry hard candy. Medium-bodied and effervescent with a slightly tart and "hot", boozy finish. The flavor is of solid, natural raspberry, but it is just WAY too alcohol-forward for my tastes.Tone down the alcohol a couple notches and I’d like it, but at this ABV, it’s just too much.

poured into snifter. color is red-amber with little head to it Aroma smells of raspberries (which is one of my favorite fruits) and nothing else. taste is very sweet and not the least bit hoppy. alcohol is very apparent even though i am slowly sipping this. overall a good beer that could be better if it was not as strong as it is.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2011 750 ml bottle into wine glass, bottled in 2008. Pours extremely hazy red orange color with a foamy 1 finger off white head with poor retention that reduces to almost nothing. Aromas of strong raspberries, booze, and some tartness and big sweetness. The nose isn’t particularly inviting, but is alright. Taste of huge booze up front with some raspberries, malty sweetness, and some spiciness. Lingering notes of sweetness and booze on the finish. Big alcohol in the taste and a huge warming on the finish. This is pretty much undrinkable, way too much alcohol presence. Big syrupy mouthfeel with light-medium carbonation. This was just not good at all, my first drain pour. I could not see myself finishing this bottle.

Bottle 2008. Not sure if the 3 year age difference threw something off, but the smell was of some fruit, and berries off the bat mixed with some rubbing alcohol. Too boozy for my likibg. Maybe if I split the bottle with 6 people
