Pours hazy and with a rich hue with a milky way pattern on top. Aroma of alcohol and raspberry. Tastes like a bowl of raspberries soaked in alcohol. Beneath the alcohol and the raspberry are endless layers of alcohol, raspberry, and acetone.

A redeeming effort for DFH after a few disappointments. Very strong rasberry aroma somewhere between fresh and extracty. Solid malt fruit interplay. Actually, I had no idea that this beer was 18%. I’m floored and it explains why I felt I like a did at the end of the night.

Draft at HDG Daze of the Devil II. Pours a hazy orange with a small fizzy white head. Aroma starts off with strong odors of super sweet apricot and raspberry but then a plastic chemicalness starts punching through. Not sure if I’m dating myself here but back when I was a kid you used to buy these small metal squeezable containers that had this colorful goop inside that you would squeze onto the end of a straw and blow giant bubbles with. Well if you remember what that stuff smells like DFH Fort owes them money for duplicating that aroma exactally. Fizzy carbonation, syrupy body and a dry finsih round out the palate. Flavors of artificial fruit syrup, hops and plastic. Even though there were plastic aromas and flavors abound I still enjoyed this beer, must have been all that yummy alcohol.

the best beer to give to your date. huge alcohol presence...lots of berry action...once again not in to the fruit thing but give this a try for a hugh buzz. rent the notebook and buy this brew for a lock.

750 ml bottle shared while in line at Red Poppy release. Nice aromas of fruit and raspberry. Some malty sweetness too. Flavor was much more malty with definite alcohol. Raspberries came in at the beginning and the end. Nice little aftertaste of sweet sugary raspberries. An interesting brew.

Pretty interesting to try an 18% beer. Tried in line for the Red Poppy Release. Aroma punches you in the face. Burns your nose and throat long after tasting. Sweet and malty. Amber color. Heavy body.

Thanks to fordest for sharing this at the Lost Abbey Red Poppy release. Not as sour as I expected. Very nice though.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Rusty (1509) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - JAN 19, 2008
The bottle I got was bottled in July 2007.
Pours a cloudy light reddish brown with a little head. Has a boozy smell similar to 120minute IPA, with a faint hint of raspberry. Taste is hot, boozy, raspberry, with nice carbonation. You get a nice carmel with warm bourbon kick in the nuts (somewhat like young DFH barleywine) at the end, but if you like the taste of booze then consider it a bonus.
This is a very "BIG" beer, and a raspberry "BIG" beer at that which puts it in a category of it’s own. There are many other fruit beers which will tantalize your palate and beat this in a blind taste test, but considering everything this brew deserves some respect.
