UPDATED: FEB 28, 2008 Horrible. If I didn’t know what ethyl acetate smelled like maybe I might rate it somewhat higher, but the nasty EtoAc smell ruined this beer. I’m shocked that the people at DFH thought this was acceptable .. it is vile. I’m beginning to realize there is a chasm between extreme beer and extremely good beer. There were some nice raspberry flavors in here hiding themselves beneath the nail polish, but they where nowhere near enough to cover up the defect. Five people tried this, nobody could drink it .. ended up pouring most of the bottle down the drain.

this beer was labed Feb. 06. Nearly two years old. It had a bite that was insane. Alcohol was the most prevelent flavor. The aroma was very nice, but the finish was just plain fire. Big bonus points for 18% !!!!!

When I first took a whiff of this beer, it reminded me of the Quelque Chose. Once I took a sip, it was WAY better. Although I am not a fan of the fruit beers, this one was very good for me! I wish there were a little more raspberries in the mix. I felt like it should have been over the top with raspberries. I do believe the strong alcohol content really helps this beer out a lot even though it is not super prominent like most beers of this abv. Get one and enjoy! Cheers!

Poured from a 750ml bottle (bottled on 11/13/06) and served in a tulip. This beer poured a reddish/brown hue with a short-lived, light tan head. No lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of alcohol-soaked rasperries, mild biscuit, and a touch of very sugary caramel. The flavor included tart, hot, alcoholic rasperry notes. Not much else was able to sneek out from underneath the heavy booze. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and slick, with very mild carbonation. Fun to try once...that’s about it.

Sampled at 2007 Brewnosers’ Christmas Gathering. 2006 bottling. Brown amber colour with a quickly diminishing off-white head. Somewhat port-like character and a bit boozy, the fruit balances nicely with the barley-wineish type beer. Full bodied but smooth. Interesting and enjoyable, though I’m not sure I’d want to return for more.

The best fruit beer I’ve had. The aroma is more wine than beer. Nice cloudy amber color. Taste is sweet and fruity with an alcohol bite to warm you up. Dogfish Head has done it again.

Great for what it is, a fruit beer. If your looking for a beer with fruit, go elswhere, but for a dessert beer, this is pretty good. Actually gonna try mixing it with Dogfish’s Indian Brown for a rasberry brown ale.

So I have had this a few time and never knew what to think I finally had it on tap and it was a different monster all together. Not sure if this was aged differently but it was way more sweet and hid the alchohol much more. Was not so medicinal as the bottles. I have had. Draft was much sweeter and had a ton of ripe sweet sugary raspberries. Bottle is crazy strong with some fruit. Same years as well, 05 draft and 05 bottles had within a few months of each other. Rating based on numerous bottles and a hint of the draft that was so good.
