2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 joshpiledean (312) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 30, 2010
Ugly cloudy pour, intensely boozy and fruity nose, wine, medium heavy body and a medium alcohol burn. Wine-like grape, sweet, grapefruit, raspberry, long sweet finish. Strange, smooth, and intense. Resembles a port, and I’m not a real big fan of them, this is ok but I’m glad I was sharing the bottle with some friends.

Bottled 2008
A-pours a dirty, cloudy, grapefruit juice looking color with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly.
S-the nose is full of raspberries and solvent alcohol, acetone, light rotten vegetable and a hint of spice in the finish. The booze is extremely strong but the vibrant raspberry do their best to mask it in a failing attempt.
T-so much alcohol in this, huge solvent alcohol met with sweet ripe raspberry. bitter rotten vegetables blend with a white peppery spice as the acetone kicks in full gear in the finish. rough malt flavors are muddled underneath the fruit and rubbing alcohol to create a boozy fruity mess.
M-again a messy malt body with a grainy syrupy texture and heavy feel to it. strong carbonation is the highlight with a crisp biting finish to balance the syrupy feel.
D-this is rough stuff, tough to get through a whole bottle. the raspberries are great its the rest of the beer that doesn’t work. just too much going on with an unfocused malt presence and overly boozy flavor.

I really wanted to like this one. Raspberries were in the nose, the taste, the aftertaste, and on the bottle. However, so was the enormous amount of alcohol. Had a great balance of sweet and sour and was not cloying like some sweet beers. I’m a huge fan of Dogfish Head especially their IPA’s, but this one just didn’t do it for me. Also, would definitely appreciate the 18% being on the label. Wow. Hadn’t looked into it when I consumed it and 25oz of 18% can really smack you in the face if you’re unprepared.

Thanks bro! Pours orange with a hint of red and a pale head. Aroma is lots of raspberries and rubbing alcohol. Taste like raspberries soaked in alcohol. Very smooth and VERY hot. Awesome fruit beer, but definitely a sipper.

Pours dark pinkish color with thin pink head. Aromas of raspberries and alcohol. Sweet and tart raspberry flavor with loads of alcohol. Too much alcohol. A couple ounces was all I could drink. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

750 ml bottle bought by my daughter, she liked the label, shared with my wife & myself. Pours a light pink, like pink champagne, with a thin white head. Aroma is raspberrys and alcohol. Alcohol is very strong, almost distracting. Palate is to the thin side, but sticky. Full raspberry flavor. Kind of one dimensional. It’s all raspberrys and alcohol. I enjoyed the glass I had, but won’t seek it out.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 natejgood (323) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 25, 2010
This is a strong beer that tastes like it, and not necessarily in a good way. I was expecting more raspberry flavor, but it was completely overpowered by the flavor of alcohol. This beer definitely warms the belly, but its taste leaves something to be desired. I’m wondering if this beer’s rating got a bit of a bump simply because it is from Dogfish Head.

What will they think of next at Dogfish Head? The country’s most innovative brewery may have finally overdone themselves with this beer. The body seems very thin and a bit sweet with its berry notes. Overwhelming alcohol presence renders it a bit out of balance.
