3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 drpimento (1695) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 10, 2010
Not nearly as good as I’d expected. Poured with a smallish, tan with orange tints, fizzy head and no lace. Color is a clear amber with red highlights. Aroma is brandy with raspberry, a bit tart, and a little malt. Flavor’s about the same. Body’s ok, but it seems to need a little more carboantion - sure would help cut the sweetness. Finish is like flavor, medium to long in length and very boozy. Was going to sip this while watching Poirot and Mystery! on the tube, but uh uh. Don’t want any more. Would be good to cook with tho.

bottle dated 2008, so aged 2 years. Pours apricot peach red orange gradiant with small off white head. The head lingers nicely with great swirly lacing. Soft raspberry nose, not as dominating as I expected or remembered. Raspberry flavor, tart, but not sour, balanced by a light maltiness, biscuit. 18% masked very nicely, although there is a subtle alcohol presence. Very warming brew, will put you on your ass. As it warms other fruit tones come out, peach, apricot. Overtall pretty hice, but lacks the complexity that a similarly priced bottle of wine might offer. I think the ageing may have mellowed it a little because I remember the raspberry tones to be much more dominating.
3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 georgebrassin (154) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 19, 2010
Amber ornage with a nice rocky head. Aroma is malt, raspberry, caramel, porto. Flavor is malt, caramel. Kind of a raspberry barley wine.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 nuplastikk (2445) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 9, 2010
Draft, repeatedly, at the Haze. Pink-orange color with a thin oily head. Pronounced raspberry aroma somehow shows itself over the big ABV. The raspberry taste is certainly there, but right alongside a barleywine-like crushing sweetness. Dangerously drinkable for the strength, could easily pass for 11% or so. Bold and rugged, certainly pushes the envelope for a Fruit beer.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 deyholla (3154) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 3, 2010
Bottle thanks to a generous BA. Pours a cloudy orange chestnut with no head whatsoever. Aroma is slightly tart raspberry with a strong rubbing/vodka alcohol note. Flavor began with a bit of tart and sweet raspberries but a very strong vodka like alcohol note takes over for a very unpleasant finish. I know it is 18 percent alcohol but it is undrinkable in my opinion.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 lusikka (2062) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 3, 2010
(750 ml bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori. Rated @ 19.5.2010.)
Pours almost like a tar or a syrup with a minimal head. Massive amount of raspberry on the aroma with notes of alcohol. The taste is very raspberry at first but the more you drink the more the alcohol pushes in. Almost like a raspberry sahti. Medium bodied with a nice warming mouthfeel. 12% ABV would be better, but this is good too.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Travlr (4544) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - SEP 2, 2010
Tap at Churchkey. Clear pink, edge head. Aroma of rubbing alcohol, fruit, rose wine. Strong alcohol taste that overpowers the fruit. Resembles a champagne cocktail with a shot of something added. Not sure I would want to try this one again.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 arminjewell (2445) - Parker, Colorado, USA - JUL 29, 2010
Pours reddish amber with thin white head, aroma is big raspberries, sweet caramel and biscuit, with a big alcohol bite. Taste is sweet raspberries, sweet caramel and big overwhelming alcohol bite. Would be better if it was more fresh raspberries, but the malt makes it a bit hard to stomach. Not bad, but not worth the price and wouldn’t buy again.
