emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Mar 7, 2008 Pours a hazy soft amber with a thin off white hazy fizzy head. The aroma was sweet, grassy, alcohol, caramel. The flavor is grassy, waxy hoppy, sweet, alcohol, BW properties, caramel, thick. The palate was sweet, warm alcohol, thick. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Mar 6, 2008 12 ounce bottle in tulip. Hazy orange with lasting ring. Medium old lemon aroma with some funky cardboardiness. Very mild old apricots sweetness with sharp bitter finish, and not much in between. Need to let it warm up. Warms up to a strong aroma of alcohol and just bitter bitterness, stanky old fruit, and a little alcohol. Medium-full body, medium carbo. I’m just not a fan of this style. Yuck. rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Mar 3, 2008 Bottle. Golden color, white head. Hoppy, citric, fruity aroma, with some grass. Hoppy flavor, malty, floral notes and some alcohol. hoplover406 (204), Crofton, Maryland, USA Mar 1, 2008 Updated: Mar 6, 2008Bottle. Pours clear amber/yellow with very nice 3 finger head that looks sticky. Aroma is citrus and grass with good maltiness. It smells pretty dank and sticky. It has a mouthfeel similar to the 90min. This is a pretty hoppy brew. Not your typical summertime thirst quenching pilsner, this is a serious brew. Hmmmm....I like it, but at 9% I’d much rather have a 90min. This is a very "grassy" brew like "MrBrendo" stated below. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Mar 1, 2008 12oz bottle. Clear amber/orange with a medium head. Aroma is sweet malt with a ton of bitter and grassy hops coming through. It’s an ok pilsner with an amazingly hidden ABV, but it’s a little too (grassy) bitter for my tastes. surffisher (194), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Feb 25, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours light orange-amber with some chill haze and an inch plus stand of thick frothy white head (in a lager glass) which leaves superb crusty lacing. The aroma is soft and sweet, heavy on the pale malts with just a touch of noble hops and then some skunkier dry hops as it sits. Flavor is generally sweet and honey sticky, with some bitterness and some burn, both especially in the finish; pretty balanced and pleasant overall. Medium bodied with moderately high carbonation. Nice, solid beer overall. Radek Kliber (3926), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Feb 25, 2008 Bottle 355ml
Appearance: Clear amber with hint of vintage gold , rocky white fizz on top 3-. Nose : Light fragrance of euro hops a la meadow. Great mixture of malt and classic fresh hops.8- Flavor/Palate : Medium-full bodied with gentle sticky qualities. Clean edition of sweet sugar malts as main theme blended bitterness pairs quiet well. Hops are better exposed as well Golden Era is smoother, silkier than most Mocnes yet its less malty than typical bock.
bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Feb 22, 2008 Pours dark golden into the glass with a lightly retentive foamy head that leaves soapy lacing. Airy-sweet bouquet, with some clean (Saaz?) hops. Very sweet, almost candy-like light malt upfront. This transitions quickly into a dry-hopped back-palate, without a lot in between. Not bad, by any means, and MUCH better than the majority of American (ahem... macro) interpretations. For 9% ABV, the mouthfeel is a bit thin, and lacking of (a lot of) complexity. The palate is medium-light with a slightly zesty body. Overall, it’s ok, but a little less-than-expected from Dogfish Head.
