Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Jun 12, 2007 Thanks To Iowaherkeye for the brew, Poured a dark gold, with quickly diminishing head. Hopped well, but it becomes quite sweet and sticky, Quite noticeable alcohol, but still decent. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2007 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Never had an "imperial pilsner" before. Two fingers of head, and a wonderful aroma, throwing too many smells into my face to count. The taste is a bit tough, kinda thick and syrupy. Not bad, but the mouthfeel leaves some to be desired. Overall, another unique product from DFH. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 10, 2007 ’06 bottle. Pours a deep orange-amber color with a small white head. Very little lacing. Scents of candied sugar, citrus, some mild hops, and wheat. Nice mouth feel, not too thin but thick enough to generate a decent response. Flavor is closer to that of a barley wine in my opinion. Has a rock candy quality to it along with some caramel and malt. I’m not picking up on the hops whatsoever. Very good brew, just not sure about the classification of it, then again, I didn’t brew it and it may just be my crazy taste buds. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 7, 2007 The Dan Journal #27. 750ml bottle. Still under the "Golden Shower" monaker. Amber golden hue. Spiraling white head. Toasty lemon aromas. Full bodied with a slick oily palate. Sugary malty and sticky. Dry and bitter with a slight banan and piney flavor. bboeckl (133), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Jun 6, 2007 Bottle. Deep golden color. Nice foamy white head. Great lacing. Inhaling the aroma, my first thoughts are: malty, grainy. I think, I’ve had some Carnation Brand Malt, used for malted milk that had this smell. So, let’s take a sip. First impressions there are that the malt nose definately carries through to the taste... but there is another dimension. Remanicent of a brandy barrel aged beer. Very similar mouth feel. Carbonation is light and there is a syrupy quality to the body.. Taste and mouthfeel really in the direction of a barly wine. This, and the high gravity give this beer a real sipping quality. Definately enjoyable. But, a little too heavy on this barley wine taste, alcohol and mouthfeel to qualify as a lager. Not sure if I will drink this one again. Perhaps I will warm up to it. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jun 4, 2007 Strong and you can taste it. Loses the sense of the pilsner, but packs a hell of a punch as a strong lager. Big hops with citrus instead of the typical grassy pils hops. Sweet honey grain flavor, but gets kicked with alochol burn. Needs a bit of time to age and settle. Nice beer none the less. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jun 1, 2007 Bottled 3/06, as Golden Shower, yet another old bottle in Florida, dang it. This one didn’t seem to suffer any effects, as if featured a crisp, fresh lemony citric hoppy nose. Well done. The flavor was quite sweet, with huge sticky, toffeeish candy malts. A bit corny, or at least grainy/sugary. A little sticky and heavy on the palate. Perhaps just enough bittering hops to balance, but not quite enough to taste alot of bitterness, which is disappointing for a beer considering itself to be some sort of relative to a pilsner. Dark golden color, big foaming head. nijuro (63), USA May 30, 2007 very hoppy for a pilsner, maybe more like an APA. Nice sweetness, and relatively crisp. I couldn’t get past the pour...the label coupled with the look of the beer was a litte offputting...
