Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Dec 26, 2006 Thanks, bro, for sending me this beerfor Christmas. Pours with a reddish-orange body topped by a meidum thick to thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a nice candy sugar note and a grassy hop note. Meidum bodied, smooth and a touch warming. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Dec 21, 2006 Bottled: Pours a crystal clear deep orange with a thin tan head. Peppery aroma. There’s some citrusey hops with a slightly sweet bready malt aroma, and a hint of alcohol. Slightly viscous mouthfeel. Has a big maltyness which is chewy, and has a rye bread character. There’s a subtle butterscotch sweetness. The later flavors lean toward spicey, slightly sweet oakey notes, and a piney earthy hop finish. Enjoyable. boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Dec 19, 2006 750ml bottle of "Golden Shower": When I opened this one I got a good bit of a foam rush out of it. I had a preliminary taste by giving the bottle a lip lock as to not waste any of this brew. This one poured a clear, somewhat darker golden color. There was a bit of a head on it, which left some lacing. The nose is nice. Some caramel, breadiness and a bit grassy. The taste is somewhat fuller bodied. Rich, with notes of the caramel, fruits and a dry hopiness coming through. Very Nice. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 10, 2006 Bottle. Clear orange with a large frothy white head. Significant caramel in the aroma - malty but also some grassy hop character and sweet bread. Sweet to start with notable hop substance. Sharp bitterness at times with mild warming alcohol as is sometimes found with this style. Pretty solid. BobbyW3363 (154), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Nov 27, 2006 Clear copper color with a medium foamy head. Light, sweet fruity aroma, with some notes of alcohol. Strong flavor of sweet malts, alcohol, orange, and some other stuff. It all adds up to an odd flavor that I can’t quite describe effectively. It’s different than the other Imperial Pilsners I’ve had like Rogue Morimoto or Sam Adams. The more I drink it though, the more I like it. It might be more like a strong version of a true pilsner than the other two I mentioned. The alcohol warms nicely. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel, sweet caramel/alcohol finish. Overall, enjoyable enough to drink again (though for $14 a bottle, not anytime too soon). Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 22, 2006 Clear copper body with a short-lived medium off-white head. A well malted pleasant body is pretty much its only real quality. This one lacked depth. All I got was some bready malts dipped in honey with too much of an alcohol flavour. Very very sweet beer, too sweet for me. Some hops could have save the day they were not there. Well brewed (this is Dogfish Head) but overall it was just a simple strong beer that lacked a personality. Despite what my gay friends always said, I knew I wouldn’t enjoy having a golden shower. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Nov 20, 2006 Deep gold in color with a large thick/dense white head.Floral hop aroma with a touch of sweet malt and alcohol. Flavor is bittersweet, hoppy, bready malt, sweet in the middle though finishing more dry. Full body, perhaps one of the fuller palates I’ve had from a non-bock lager. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 12, 2006 Updated: Feb 2, 2007Any first impressions?
-A ring of foam surrounds the clear copper tinge.
-Biscuity malts and honey sweetness send a sugar-rich message to the nostrils.
-Silky honey develops into toffee in the goal of pleasing sweet teeth.
-The abundance of pils maltiness, coupled with sparse but lively carbonation, produces a slick, clean mouthfeel.
What if you dig deeper?
-Some peppery, herbal hop bitterness attemps to dry out the back end, but doesn’t completely achieve its goal.
-Some citrusy fruitiness is found in the distance.
-Alcohol, as in most DFH products, is efficiently hidden.
-This remains a very smooth, clean strong lager, but if you don’t have a sweet tooth, you probably won’t enjoy it that much.
Bottles; 6 months old and 11 months old.
