You get the bitterness in the finish, the malt up front. To the European I shared with, it certainly was not a pilsner. My notes show I did not think as much of this as the Samuel Adams in this style. It was still a good way to kick back a summer day on a long weekend, with the alcohol kick setting up a very long nap. Body and medium plus mouthfeel.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2006 3/21/06 on the label. A rich, bronze color with a tight, thick, white collar of foam. Fruity and ale-like in the aroma with a good dose of perfumey, spicy, noble hops. Flavor has an extreme sweetness as its foundation with grainy, creamy, Karo syrup-like components being only slightly balanced by the understated hoppiness. There is some soft acidity, but not enough to call this a pils, Imperial or not. Sam needs to follow his own advice on producing ’big beers.’ "Add a little more hops than your gut is telling you to add." This is still a great beer but it could possibly better be called an Imperial Munich Helles or a Doppel Helles Bock. I must also commend them for elimination the raisiny, dark fruit flavors and the super-fruity higher alcohols this beer had when I had it as Prescription Pils in 2002 or 2003. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Updated: Aug 31, 2006bottle. Aroma: Bready, green apples, pepper, floral and grassy hops, and a bit of caramel. Appearance: Medium golden in color and clear. Head was white, full, and rocky. Good lacing. Flavor: Sweet malt with a noticeable caramel flavor, fresh bread, perfumey hops and grass, and a good spicy pepperiness. A little alcohol noted in the finish, but alcohol is well hidden over all. Palate: Medium-full bodied and smooth. High carbonation was a little prickly. Finish was very sweet and a little syrupy. A little alcohol warming in the back of my mouth. Overall: Pretty good overall, but a little too sweet. There’s some nice noble hop flavor here, but it’s overwhelmed by the malt sweetness. Still, worth a taste. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2006 I almost pissed myself when I saw this at KP’s gathering. Ok enough lame jokes onto the beer. A saaz hop and hay aroma. It poured a cloudy yellow appearance as you would expect. The flavor was very sweet with some lemons and more hay present. It had a perfume quality to it. Pretty good beer. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 27, 2006 love this brewery, but not a huge fan of this style. everything i’ve had is dominated by overly sweet malts. this was more of the same. although dry hops are clearly noted, the sugar of the malts overwhelms the palate and detracts from the true enjoyment of the beer, atleast for this rater. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Clear straw-brown body, reminiscent of apple juice, medium effervescent off-white head. Bready, caramely aroma, strongly earthy, with peppery hops. Quite potent. Malty body with breads, brown sugar, and caramel, leading to soapy, floral hops and a sweet caramely sugar finish. Silky body. Prickly alcohol finish. Maltier than expected but this had an excellent mouthfeel. Complex and delicious, the best Imperial Pilsener I’ve sampled. Juelze (895), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Pours a dark yellow color with mild fluffy head. Aroma is of sweet malt and sugar. Taste is much the same with malt being the dominant flavor. It’s a very thick and syrupy beer that only begins to show a small amount of it’s hop character as it warms. Never had an imperial pilsner before but someone else has the same opinion as me, it’s a maibock on steroids. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Slightly sweet and malty. ABV is very noticeable. Mild spice and banana in the aftertaste with some citrus hop bite. Very barleywine like. Interesting beer for sure.
