Bottled 3/21/06. Poured a clear amber with a frothy white head. Nice sweet malt and fruit aroma. The flavor finds lots of caramel malts with some fruits. Sweet throughout. Medium to full body. Very enjoyable. (Rating from June ’07)

12 oz. bottle. Plenty of aromas and flavors in this imperial pilsner, but they don’t seem to blend together. The pour is a clear, light amber with a small white head. The nose is lemon, grass and sweet malt and breadiness. Notes of hops, mostly orange. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter in the finish. The alcohol is clearly present in the finish, warming and liquor-like. Thin to medium body and watery texture. The malts and hops seem divorced from each other rather than complimenting each other.

12 oz. bottle bought awhile ago at Binny’s (Orland Park, IL). Pours a hazed golden hue, bubbly with creamy white head that is moderate and starts to dissipate. Aromas of pilsner malts, very Dogfish-esque malts similar to the carmel malty body of the 60 Minute. Decent hop additions create a nice bouquet of floral and light citrus. Initial is smooth up front, sweeter grainy malts move into a light alcohol presence, with nice grassy and citrusy hoppiness. Finishes with a subtle sweetness, light-medium body with an ABV to boot. Laces well, alittle astringent for the style, but certainly not overhopped. A bit different from most "Imperial Pilsners". This was ok.

Not quite clear golden. Good head, but not overflowing. Aroma of very sweet malt. Very sweet and alcoholic pils. Tastes of light maple and honey. Very thick for a pils.

Deep golden hue. Thick creamy white head. Floral spicy pepper nose. Begins sweet, lightly citric. Unfolds into a slippery, mediumm bodied disaster...Terribly drinkable, 9%! What the faulk! Finishes with a pleasant bitter backdrop, herbal hops, pleasantly bitter, with a peppery, sweet aftertaste. Oh so nice. I drank this while Sam was hanging out at the Moan & Dove in AMherst, MA...what an experience...HAHA

labeled as ’dogfish head noble experiment hurrah for golden era imperial pilsner’. golden color, moderate white head, nice lacing. a good looker. aroma of corn (hopefully not syrup), grain, malt. flavor is corn, grain, hops, marred by a hint of a metallic taste. thick, full-bodied, dry finish. pretty big beer at 9% abv, but the alcohol is weel hidden, until you get up to walk.

(750 ml bottle (bottled 3/21/06) from Downeast Beverage Co.) This one poured a clear light amberish gold with about 4" of light orangey-white head in my willibecher. Head eventually recedes to about 1/2" of sloppy foam. Lacing is sloppy foamy patches. Aroma is strongly hoppy - pine with a little bit of grass. Mouthfeel fairly full and smooth. Taste is pure pine and almost nothing else. I couldn’t even taste any malt until I was almost done and the beer had gotten pretty warm. Hops overpower. Strong piney bite in the finish. Way too one-dimensional.

April 2006 - Okay, I’m not a fan. It looked great, big head, crystal clear, but I have to DRINK them, not gaze at them affectionately (the lacing was really sweet, though). This beer had a really nice hop twang, but was really, really too sweet for my liking. Okay, but there are other, nonimperial pilsners that taste better and don’t consume liver space.
