COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grau Dunkel Grau Dunkel is a traditional German-style wheat beer brewed using traditional German malts like vienna and munich. The wheat malt for this brew was smoked over the oak chips we used to age our Brown Honey Rum. The smooth flavor and aroma of oak, honey and molasses add a complex backbone to the brew. The weizen yeast strain used for fermentation provide dry, spicy clove and banana notes.

On tap @ Rehoboth Brewpub-Cloudy amber/mahogany color w/a moderate tan head & good lacing which lasted thru the brew. Sweet aroma of roasted malt & wheat. Has a definite wheat flavor on the front end which reminded one of drinking a Hefe, with traces of banana & spice. Then the malt backbone kicks in w/traces of molasses, roasted malt, & a subtle smokey flavor which balances this brew very well. Smooth, easy drinking session type brew, was very refreshing after a short, after work bike ride. This one was a winner.

Draft at pub in Rehoboth. Pretty decent dunkel. Banana overpowers the oak, though there was some smoky woodiness. Palate was a bit slippery (though I guess that this is typical for the style).
