COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2011 marks the 100th birthday of Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson who, according to legend, sold his soul down at the crossroads in a midnight bargain and changed music forever. Working again with our friends at Sony Legacy (yup, the same folks we did our Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew with), Dogfish Head pays tribute to this blues legend by gettin the hellhounds off his trail and into this finely-crafted ale. Hellhound is a super-hoppy ale that hits 100 IBUs in the brewhouse, 10.0 ABV, 10.0 SRM in color, and dry-hopped with 100% centennial hops at a rate of 100 kilos per 100 barrel brew-length. Can you tell we at Dogfish are stoked for this mighty musical centennial? To accentuate and magnify the citrusy notes of the centennial hops (and as a shout out to Robert Johnsons mentor Blind Lemon Jefferson) we add dried lemon peel and flesh to the whirlpool.

On tap. Killer beer! This beer hits on all cylinders. Like a hoppy tripel. Elegant sweet very aromatic. Perfect carbonation. Smooth and clean. Green hops on the back of the tongue. Super satisfying.

Bottle, thnx to Ed, cheers buddy! Pours a clear, dark orange colour with a nice white head. Aroma of tangerine, lemon and pineapple. Medium hoppped, little malty base. Flavour has a lot of citric notes, as well as some alcoholic sweetness. Nice in balance, could have used a bit more hoppy presences in my opinion. Mouthfeel is little sticky, long lasting bitter aftertaste. Another very good brew by Dogfish Head.

Pours a golden orange color with a big frothy lacing head. The nose has some sweet caramel malts and a lot of lemon and citrus with a slight herbal touch. The palate is pretty straight forward with a very bubbly carbonation and lots of lemon pulp and bitterness. The bitterness is overwhelming and drowned out any other subtitles in the beer. Making it drinkable but nothing Im willing to try again.

Nice amber color with a white foam. At first it smells like a big IPA all hops and mslt but after it wars a bit you get t lemon. Taste is a very good double IPA. Nice hop/malt balance. Slight sweetness grom the malt. The lemon is interesting. It come towards the end. Moderate carbonation works well with this big beer. Generally a great beer with a unique lemon finish. I enjoyed it.

bottle, from Triangle Wine. Good aroma, sweet, Lemon, grapefruit little sugar. Clean brownish orange color, good head that faded to a soft cover, minor lace. Bittersweet flavor. medium body, oily creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Pretty good, Lemon adds a nice streak about it, has a subtle sweet streak, but plenty of bittterness. I like it because it isn’t as astringent as the 90 minute seems to me these days.

Aroma is of floral hops, orange peel, lemon, honey, biscuit, malt, and light pineapple. Flavor is balanced sweet malts and bold hops (medium bitterness), with grapefruit and lemon; dry, hoppy finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Really enjoyed this one.

Very hazy amber beer, tidy white head. Silky palate with prickly carbonation. Rich hops - coming over as Sorachi like but that might be all the lemon here! A littler creamy malt and a dash of aniseed. Finishes with more creamy malt and a little bitter lemon. Nicely joined up and quite refreshing.

Bottle. Pours a dark, mostly clear copper with a half finger of off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, herbal, lemon. Flavor is hoppy, herbal, resinous, finishes with slight herbal lemon finish. Lingers briefly. Pretty good job masking the alcohol. Soft carbonation, medium body, and a smooth, creamy texture. The lemon really compliments the citrus character of the hops. A very good, strong and flavorful beer.

Orange, white head. Citrus fruits, really hoppy. Malts not completely overshadowed in the taste but a little imbalanced.

Aromas of citrus fruit, with a good deal of lemon zest, caramel, bread, and subtle booze. Clear orange-gold, with quickly fading, off-white head foam. Strong and bitter, with a touch of sweetness, and a faint salty-savory sensation. Medium body, low carbonation, and a long bitter finish.
