COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2011 marks the 100th birthday of Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson who, according to legend, sold his soul down at the crossroads in a midnight bargain and changed music forever. Working again with our friends at Sony Legacy (yup, the same folks we did our Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew with), Dogfish Head pays tribute to this blues legend by gettin the hellhounds off his trail and into this finely-crafted ale. Hellhound is a super-hoppy ale that hits 100 IBUs in the brewhouse, 10.0 ABV, 10.0 SRM in color, and dry-hopped with 100% centennial hops at a rate of 100 kilos per 100 barrel brew-length. Can you tell we at Dogfish are stoked for this mighty musical centennial? To accentuate and magnify the citrusy notes of the centennial hops (and as a shout out to Robert Johnsons mentor Blind Lemon Jefferson) we add dried lemon peel and flesh to the whirlpool.

Beautiful Clear golden orange with a creamy white head. Amazing citrus aroma and taste of orange lemon and grapefruit with an exceptionally well balanced bitterness against the sweet caramel and candied lemon peel flavors. Alcohol un-noticeable minus some slight warmth on the back end. Nice creamy palate that accentuates the citrus flavors and hints at vanilla. This is as close to perfection as IPAs get!

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2013 One of my favorite beers. Great mouth feel, good complexity. It does have a touch of sweetness at the end, but to me that just makes it very balanced. If you can find it, buy it. 05/04/13 had to update.. drinking this again..what a great beer! Wish I could afford to drink it more often! Super smooth IPA. Plenty of flavor! Dogfish Head rocks!

Aroma has a nice lemony hoppy scent.... Love it!! Flavor is very lemony up front and then the nice citrusy hoppy flavor kicks in. Love that DFH can make a west coast Ipa so well considering they usually make very malty Ipas. Another great beer from DFH!!

Pours a nice amber color, almost copper. Citrus lemony aroma, creamy and tangy with a bitter finish. Delicious! grass, citrus, lemon, orange, hops and more hops.

Lemons, lemons, lemons... I taste and smell them both. Clarity and head retention a bit lacking but all other characteristics are perfecto.

On tap. Killer beer! This beer hits on all cylinders. Like a hoppy tripel. Elegant sweet very aromatic. Perfect carbonation. Smooth and clean. Green hops on the back of the tongue. Super satisfying.

Uma cerveja única, comprada em Nova York e bebida no Rio de Janeiro. Difícil descrevê-la por realmente ser uma cerveja fora do eixo.

Thick and real alcohol with lots of lemon and spice. Thick mouthfeel with a hazy orange color.

Chilled bottle. Pours amber, low carbonation. Taste is mahogany and cognac. Lemon is very late; this tastes almost English barley wine. Thoroughly enjoyed and wish I could have dragged out for hours.

750ml bottle fresh from the brewery. Bottled like 8 days before this review. Pour is amazing. Clear amber with a nice fluffy off white head that receeds quick. It’s so awesome like super fresh hops and taking a bite of a lemon. Nice caramely malt presence, and fresh ass hops again. Can’t stress the freshness enough , the lemon adds a lot. Thick mouthfeel, juicy. I love it, everything I expect from a double IPA plus a nice lemon crispy-ness. It’s absolutely fantastic, if you can get it fresh I totally recommend it.
