COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2011 marks the 100th birthday of Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson who, according to legend, sold his soul down at the crossroads in a midnight bargain and changed music forever. Working again with our friends at Sony Legacy (yup, the same folks we did our Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew with), Dogfish Head pays tribute to this blues legend by gettin the hellhounds off his trail and into this finely-crafted ale. Hellhound is a super-hoppy ale that hits 100 IBUs in the brewhouse, 10.0 ABV, 10.0 SRM in color, and dry-hopped with 100% centennial hops at a rate of 100 kilos per 100 barrel brew-length. Can you tell we at Dogfish are stoked for this mighty musical centennial? To accentuate and magnify the citrusy notes of the centennial hops (and as a shout out to Robert Johnsons mentor Blind Lemon Jefferson) we add dried lemon peel and flesh to the whirlpool.

Split this bottle yesterday with friends. We poured it into small pint glasses and got a two finger white head sitting on top of a clear orange body. The head settled to a thin lace rather quickly but carbonation was good. You certainly can smell the lemon citrus in this brew. It was very one dimensional when it came to the aroma, citric hops would sum it up. The flavor reminded me of the 90 min IPA but with a fresh lemon thrown in it.(yummy) It was rather oily in the mouthfeel but I did enjoy every drop. Do it I think it was worth what I paid for the bottle.. LOL, I say stick with the 90 min IPA. This brew may be a bit to much of a Sony gimmick for me.

Bomber. Pours a golden amber with a white head. Big hoppy aroma. Basically Dogfish Head 100 with a twist of lemon. The alcohol is cleverly disguised in this one.

Uma cerveja única, comprada em Nova York e bebida no Rio de Janeiro. Difícil descrevê-la por realmente ser uma cerveja fora do eixo.

Bomber from Crown Wine & Spirits in Port St. Lucie West. Pours a coppery-orange with a spongey white head leaving nice lacing. Aroma has sweet pine and a lot of citrus, and sweet pine. Centennial heaven! Taste is of an alcoholly grapefruit and pine combination. Sticky and quite bitter. Then underneath a representative malt backbone. More than medium bodied. Finishes dry and on the bitter - over dry hopped side - of bittersweet. DFH has gotten away from the bad tasting Delaware water of late? Their ipas and double ipas have not had that strange flavor. A solid one which really emphasizes the centennial hop!

This is a great beer. Not much aroma upfront, but fantastic malty backbone with an elegantly delicate lemon aroma midway through the finish. Bitterness throughout the sip. Floral notes of the centennial hops don't come through, not sure how aromatic they are to begin with, but it's a shame, it could use some upfront complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
