Pours deep copper with a decent head and syrupy mouthfeel. Lots of dark fruit, plum, molasses, honey, and some oak vanilla aftertaste.

Pours a nice amber color with white head. The juniper berries are very evident on the nose, also some vanilla, and very earthy tones and sweetness; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a nice sweetness.

Transfer from BA review on 2-25-12 - Served in a chalice type glass Appearance – A light golden-reddish color with a nice off white head. The brew itself is a bit hazy with big bubbles of carbonation visible clinging to the side of the glass. The head fades to give some moderate lacing. Smell –Upfront there is a bready backbone and with some smokiness. Some sweeter darker fruits and a bit of maple sugar taste come in more toward the middle of the aroma. These are rounded out by some more floral aromas and a bit of earthiness. Taste – The taste is largely bready and somewhat yeasty and smoky up front. There are some nice sweeter fruit flavors that come in toward the middle of the taste, which mix with some sweet brown sugar and maple taste. Toward the these sweet flavors mix with some malty earthy flavors. Mouthfeel – A bit on the creamier side with a fairly good level of carbonation. Big bubbles of CO2 can be felt on the tongue giving a moderate exiting feel. This coupled with a nice body makes it quite a nice feel. Overall – It has a rather interesting taste and smell. Not the most complementary transitions in many of its characteristics, but a beer that is well worth a try.

Initial nose is very much floral and fruity. Rather disappointing in taste a bit unbalanced and finishes a tad hotter than the best barleywines. Still a good beer though

Rich mahogany colored brew & tan head. Aromas of vanilla, oak and dark fruits. Maple, woodsy & vanilla flavors. Rich, delicious & flavorful.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Dark reddish brown copper with a light tan head that dissipates to a thin cap. Aroma is very sweet. Out of the fridge it was like cherry cough syrup, but as it warmed, mellowed into dark ripe fruit. Oak and vanilla definitely present. A bit musty as well. Taste is sweet with a bit of a sour pop that fades quickly. Oak, vanilla, smoke and sweet bread. Full body and active carbonation. Combination of full body and rich flavors made this a sippin’ beer for me.

Comes out of the tap an opaque mahogany, thin pale buff head. Aroma has caramel, malty and subtle horehound notes. Flavor teases the palate with caramel, grape and malt notes - but no hint of he alcohol bite, so beware! Thick, smooth texture rounds out a great barley wine. I myself am immortal - except the "T" is silent.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2014 12oz bottle into a DFH signature glass. Poured a redish amber with a small thick head that disappears. A real sweet aroma that reminds me of a Belgium Ale. Taste is not that of a Belgium, sweet and bitter all in one, Strong after taste of what I guess is maple vanilla and oak (that is what is on the label) which is good now but we will see in 2-3 more bottles if it is still good. A thick ale that "feels" like it has a high alcohol content (it does 11%) but doesn’t really taste like it. I can see why some may not care too much for this beer, but I’m enjoying this ale. 4/18- This was my first Barley wine and I didn’t even know it. That might explain my comments a little.

12 oz bottle. Sweet aroma of grapes. Poured a perfect unfiltered dark copper with a frothy tan top and some lacing action. Taste of band-aids, no joke. Also boozy in flavor. Medium palate, thick body. This beer is all over the place!

12 ounce bottle. And has a great appearance. Un filtered look. Has a pretty good aroma of oak and fruit berry smell. A sweet smell and flavor to start. Followed by a plastic like taste (like baindaids lol). Then followed by a strong flavor of alcohol which Mellows into a bitter finish.
