Pours a nice burnt sienna color. Smells sweet and slightly smokey. Tastes sweet and toasty with prominent vanilla, rather simple but not lacking. I donít taste the maple syrup. Not nearly as dramatic as I was expecting. All in all it was quite enjoyable.

Huge beer; lots of oak, vanilla, malt bitterness. Maple syrup, yep. There is a smokiness I think must be coming from the maple... Mouthfeel is cloying almost, boozy, shamelessly forward. Sweet, bitter, malty... itís just big in every sense of the word. Itís an excellent beer, and one of DFHís better experiments, if you can call it that.

Dark brown colored body, medium to thin light tan head, spotty lacing. Peaty smoke, vanilla, dark fruits, brown sugar, and oak. Medium to full bodied, lively carbonation, lingering sweet finish.

Bottle from October 26th, 2011. Looks like gross prune juice Smell is pretty big bodied, sweet malty forward.lots of dark fruits and obvious charcoal / peat nose. Whoa, this is a peat bomb. Smoky, almost medicinal, salty backbone and pretty much dominates the little bit of syrup and oak thatís there

Very mello barley wine flavor. The juniper berries add a sweetness unlike any other berry. Would make an awesome reduction turned into a pancake syrup.

Awesome brew. Strong oak and maple flavors with vanilla. Probably my new favorite from Dogfish Head.

Bottle served in a tulip. Pours clear, viscous dark orange-brown with a short head. Complex malt and fruity nose with big peat, smoke, and oak with wafts of berries. The flavor matches almost perfectly. Medium-plus sweet. Full body, thick, sticky texture, soft carbonation and a light bitter finish. Awesome beer.

Nose is almost off. Hints of dust and peat smoke with some malty complexity. Palate is nice, structured and refined. Very contemplative taste. Wild tobacco and peat smoke. Touch of syrupy gamey earth. Hops are not loud at all. Would drink again. ---That dog will hunt!
