Clear dark honey color with an off white head. Aroma is sweet maple, peat, vanilla, and wood. Taste is has a lot of maple and vanilla sweetness with a lot of earthiness. Wood and peat are also very prevalent. Alcohol is nearly completely hidden except for some warmth on the way down. Somewhat syrupy texture. First time I tried it peat smokiness was somewhat overpowering, but this was much better.

2016 bottle poured into snifter. Pours a clear, red amber with a thick, stubborn khaki head and persistent lacing. Aroma is oak, vanilla, cherry, light peat. Flavor is vanilla and a touch of caramel up front, and a malty finish with hints of sweet cherry on the end. The faintest hint of bitterness lingers on the palate. Mouthfeel is slick and a tad creamy. This is a hybrid scotch ale and barleywine profile, and is very good. Not as robust a palate as you find in other Dogfish Head varieties, but delicious and worth a try.

Kind of a funky sweet smell, with nothing I can quite pin down. Deep amber color, almost purple. Has a sweet almost cherry flavor, with sort of a clove or spice flavor. I think this changes nicely as it warms up.

12 oz from Samís for 4.89. Pours clear copper with a massive foamy white head. Sweet aroma with fruit, vanilla and oak notes. Taste is a bit more subdued, with a bit of citrus hop up front, a hint of peat, smokiness on the end. Body is average, maybe slightly creamy. This beer is hard to put into one category. It has some characteristics of a barleywine and also a scotch ale. I do know one thing though; it is damn good and I want more.

12 oz. bottle. Bottled 12/22/15. Pours a thick, well retained, tiny bubbled, ivory head, with heavy lacing, over a clear, bubbly copper (SRM 17) body.......nose is sugar sweet, with heavy dried fruits including fig, raisin, mango, light juniper, pine notes, light smoke, balance to the malts.....taste is heavily sweet, with juniper, pine, dried fruits including fig, mango, finishing with light bitterness......mouth feel, heavy sticky, syrupy, chewy body, alcohol heat present, carbonation makes a creamy mouthful. This is a very sweet, alcoholic beer with the sweetness being a bit too much. The other characteristics of malts and hops are quite hidden, with the hops especially so. Maybe a few years of aging would improve. BJCP 7/3/12/4/5

Draft at Tap and Handle last week. Brown appearance with a white head. Smoky, peaty malt aroma with juniper berries, maple syrup and oak. The flavor adds mild bitterness and notes of tobacco and vanilla with a lingering finish. Medium body. Interesting barley wine, itís different.

Malty smell with a touch of alcohol. Taste is very malty, mild alcohol (hides the ABV fairly well), dark chocolate, toffee, vanilla, oak, and dark caramel. Full body with low to medium carbonation and very slight foam.

12 oz bottle bottled 2012B (Feb I think) pours a clear ruby/caramel with a thin head. Aroma has big notes of dark fruits, dark caramel, smoky wood, and a touch of maple. Taste is mildly sweet but not cloying. Caramel, subtle maple syrup, oak, and slight smoke at the end. Medium-full body with low carbonation. Creamy/syrupy mouth feel.
