Red pour with light head floral nose. Thick taste. Boozy. Almost medicinal. Very heavy. Nice floral and spice hints. You can have one and that's it

2011 vintage. Pours a brown like cider color. Below average 1 finger head. Dozens of slow moving bubbles. Tons of oak on the nose. Maple is also present. Very smooth mouthfeel. Lots of flavors going on- oak for sure- also pick up smokiness, sweetness, and the vanilla. This is quite enjoyable.

Maple and oak really come through. Strongly flavored like many of dog fish heads other brews but not unpleasant. Bronze colored. No head.

Caramel malt aroma, sweet. Sweet caramel and malt up front. Some orange peel. Bitter finish is a surprise. Good but not my favorite DFH offering.

Great aroma of vanilla and maple. I get a strong oak/smoked flavor up front with vanilla hints and a maple finish. A quality brew.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - Ruby brown clear pour with a ring of light tan head. Nose is lightly smoky, with toasted oak, vanilla, butterscotch, and dry, slightly astringent maltiness. Taste is kind of like HotD Adam--lots of deep, dark, bready malt, smoke, tobacco, vanilla, boozy warmth, and a touch of nuttiness. Much better taste than smell, and it’s quite warming. Actually hides the 11% pretty well as there’s not really any sharpness. Pretty thin body, but it doesn’t really detract. Wasn’t expecting much, but this came through.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy reddish amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel malts, some smoked character, vanilla, dark fruit, raisins, figs, juniper notes, earthy, wood, and some booze. There is quite a bit going on, but this has never been one of my favorites.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a nice amber color with white head. The juniper berries are very evident on the nose, also some vanilla, and very earthy tones and sweetness; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a nice sweetness.

Served in a chalice type glass
Appearance – A light golden-reddish color with a nice off white head. The brew itself is a bit hazy with big bubbles of carbonation visible clinging to the side of the glass. The head fades to give some moderate lacing.
Smell –Upfront there is a bready backbone and with some smokiness. Some sweeter darker fruits and a bit of maple sugar taste come in more toward the middle of the aroma. These are rounded out by some more floral aromas and a bit of earthiness.
Taste – The taste is largely bready and somewhat yeasty and smoky up front. There are some nice sweeter fruit flavors that come in toward the middle of the taste, which mix with some sweet brown sugar and maple taste. Toward the these sweet flavors mix with some malty earthy flavors.
Mouthfeel – A bit on the creamier side with a fairly good level of carbonation. Big bubbles of CO2 can be felt on the tongue giving a moderate exiting feel. This coupled with a nice body makes it quite a nice feel.
Overall – It has a rather interesting taste and smell. Not the most complementary transitions in many of its characteristics, but a beer that is well worth a try.
