A red beer with no head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of malt, alcohol, caramel, and hints of hops. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel and the alcohol biting the tongue. A quite nice beer.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours a cloudy, warm, amber golden with a yellowish head. Sweetish aroma of caramel and fruit. Soft mouthfeel, full-bodied with sweetish caramel and then some odd but fairly distinct smoked notes - as in a Scotch whisky. A bit flat and sticky perhaps. Ends with basically no bitterness. Definitely a different Barley Wine. 090407

12 oz bottle. Pours amber with no head. Smoked aroma, slight malty and rubber. Thick mouthfeel. Clearly fullbodied. Sweet raisin malty, syrup and oak hints. I don’t sense the vanilla, but the beer has a certain flavour smoothness. Good bitterness in the finish.

Bottled. Dark amber colour, not much head. Aroma is leather, malts, hops and syrup. Flavour is leather, malts, a bit caramel. Also strong roasted and smoked notes. Hides it’s alcohol quite well.

Dark amber color. Nice caramel and malt aroma, a bit oxidized. Malt flavor, caramel, sweet, with very low bitterness, some alcohol perception.
Not suitable for aging.

The pour is not thick; it has a dark mahogany color and a reasonably big head, creamy. Malt aroma; I think actually that it’s quite slim. It has medium body strength, quite good malt and caramel flavor, partially sweet; I surely expected a more massive beer, thicker, to start with, and sweeter; the most interesting part is a light smoke flavor; ordinary bitterness; the final is even quite dry. Some alcohol warmth. Not complex as expected; well, last time I had it it was 11 years ago…
