jredmond (592), New Jersey, USA Apr 27, 2008 Updated: Jul 22, 2008 12 oz bottle from Mr. PJays.
Pours a darkish reddish brown body. The aroma is vanilla ad some fruit maybe. The taste is a little vanilla, alcohol, and something smoked. I would like to try this one back to back with Old Horizontal.
joekfsu (115), Boardman, Ohio, USA Jul 21, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours clear dark amber with 2 cm of off-white head that is slowly diminishing. Aroma of maple, vanilla, and a hint of spice. Initial flavor is sweet with dark fruits and maple. Flavor becomes more balanced with smoke and a distance touch of hops. Light carbonation, moderate lacing, medium body, and tons of alcohol, especially as it warms. Overall an interesting beer, as they all tend to be from dogfish head. SuperDave70 (652), Arizona, USA Jul 21, 2008 Deep amber pour with a small creamy tan head that lasts. Nice aroma of maple, vanilla, smoke and alcohol. Very similar flavor. Lots of smoky bacon and maple syrup. Nice alcohol bite. Interesting and good. carruthm (316), USA Jul 21, 2008 V - slow developing head with a murky, bubbly dark amber color
A - malts, cherries, barley and sugar
T - vanilla, caramel, fruit spices, oak
P - little burst of alcohol, bit carbonated, overall very pleasent GMUcrew7 (158), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 19, 2008 Pours beautiful rust color with a beige head that doesn’t fully dissipate. Aroma is predominately oak and sweet malt with some alcohol. Oak,vanilla and maple syrup dominated flavor. Very malty brew, not much in the way of hops and the alcohol is hardly noticeable. Great full, sticky palate. Excellent beer, a unique but great barley wine. dogfish120love (19), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Jul 19, 2008 can’t help but taste blue cheese, must be the peat smoked barley. Not a bad brew but not something that i would drink often
