4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 DEbeer (192) - West Virginia, USA - JUN 25, 2002
Re-rate. Now that I am working my way through a sixer of this stuff, it is really growing on me. I think that this is definitely one of the most distinctive beers I have ever had.

Hunh. This is funny. No sooner does the ’American Strong Ale’ category arrive onsite, than I receive two of them via trades. I admired the good hop action of this beer, but was not a big fan of the rest of it. The malt is busy, more sweetly muddy than complex, though. Very good stuff went into this beer - it’s just the combination that’s a bit weird. Glad I had a chance to try it though (thanks John!) - this is one interesting style category!

This is quite a good beer if ya ask me. a strong flavor mix of hops and roasted malts and alcohol

The Goldings hops really show through in this lamentable effort from DFH. Its seems unbalanced and I think I can see why some raters talk about ’bubblegum’. For a brown ale, this is not up to the usual high Dogfish standards.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nate (3093) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 4, 2002
Had the smell of Twizzlers. Medium-full body with soft carbonation - low head retention. Molasses, malt, and alcohol flavor.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Merc (313) - Pullman, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2002
Very unique beer, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Strong aroma of bubblegum, some molasses and carmalized malts. Slightly burnt taste to it. I was uncertain after the first few sips, but it really grew on me.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gregory (357) - Pullman, Washington, USA - APR 27, 2002
Is that bubblegum I smell? Dark brown color. taste is initially very sweet, with flavors of dark roasted malt, and the finish is nice with a hint of caramel. Unique flavor, gotta hand it to ’em.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Davhgbrew (418) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - APR 6, 2002
Large initial head, very dark for a brown ale, and an aroma which is also not fitting for a traditional brown. The palate is is thick and creamy, the middle is fruity, and the finish is very nice. I like this better than the barley wine.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - APR 5, 2002
Coca-Cola brown, a bit bitter, more than a bit sweet, pretty heavy. Sort of a less potent version of Victory’s Storm King, perhaps?

Nice dark color, bitter flavor, nice finish.
