| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Pours a deep ruby, nice sized off white head with excellent lacing... Very aromatic, sweet dark sugars, coffee, chocolate, caramel, chocolate is very noticable as it warms.. Rich, roasty, coffee, chocolate flavors, and a touch of the hops to keep it in check... Lingeringly roasty, bitter finish with sweet undertones, dry, medium full bodied... this beer defines american brown ales... pressboxjoe (77), , New Jersey, USA

Quite like a porter, though the roasty coffee bitterness is balanced by a fullness and a perfumy hoppiness. Sweet. It’s not a beer you want to drink a bunch of at one sitting, but not special enough to want to set one aside for savoring. iggynelix (17), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 3, 2009 initial caramel notes with coffee and molasses , more hops than traditional browns, tending towards an IPA/brown mix. JoeMurphy (35), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 1, 2009 Good thick head, nice mouthfeel. Taste of coffee and maybe molasses. Almost reminds me more of a porter or stout than a brown ale - which is fine by me, because I usually like those styles better. MJGG (425), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2009 Dark brown which glows a nice ruby when held up to the light. Very nice fluffy head, which leaves behind layers of lacing.
Toffee, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit, English hops - smells like a big English Brown.
Major malt explosion upfront - strong caramel, fruit and roasted notes, maybe even a slight smokiness. Bitter at the end, much more so than other Browns, with a persistent bitter aftertaste. DFH describes this as a cross between a traditional Brown, a Scotch Ale and an IPA; throw Porter or Stout into the mix (because of the roasted character) and that may be just about right. I didn’t know a Brown could handle this much taste.
This is a very smooth beer with a full body and moderate carbonation. Slightly warming.
Great sipping beer. Almost too much flavor for multiple beers. This is a Brown Ale on crack.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Deep ruby brown with foamy light tan head. Rich caramel malt aroma with traces of fuggles and goldings. Quite remarkable flavours. The first is meminiscent of an english bitter. Then comes a huge malt punch; caramel, licorice, vanilla and butterscotch. A big hop bite at the end. Big body but a dry finish. A really smooth quaffable, but still interesting beer. Drinks like a session.
