Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Pour is a dark coffee brown with a very thick bubbly tan-colored head. Head fades after initial pour. Some lace retention on the side of the glass. Light aroma with hints of sweetness and coffee. Bite fades quickly, both other flavors linger. Molasses and coffee notes are the strongest in the taste up front, but lingering tastes include chocolate and coffee. Carbonation is slightly lower than average but leads to a nice finish. Iím not too much of a coffee person, but this beer is still very enjoyable. Drinking while eating spicy pork chops. Sweetness of the beer is a nice contrast to the spices in the meat.

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for this bottle. Toller karamell-toffee Geruch. Toll!

Pours a deep red brown. Floral and sweet nose. Beautiful balance between the malt and hops. Piney finish. A great beer.

Growler from the Southern Filling Station. Dark brown, with a small, beige head. Nice malty character of toffee, espresso, oak, and molasses. Sweet and malty, with a light, pleasant bitterness. Medium body, chalet, creamy, and clean. This is one of my gateway beers, but Iíve missed rating until now. Itís better than I remembered, and I remembered it being good.

Bottle. Dark brown, clear. Chocolate, leather, old coffin, some tobacco, slight hoppy herby nose. Mouthfilling body, quite smooth nice, well bittered though. Some citrus pine hops, but mostly malts in flavour. Vry flavourful, clean brown ale. Easy drink.

A - very dark brown, near black, with mahogany highlights. Large tan head with good duration. Aroma: medium and dark roasted malts; perhaps a slight hop spiciness. ABV well hidden but with a floral note. T: rich malt flavor leading to a lasting malty finish and aftertaste. Hops make their presence known mainly in the clear bitterness of the finish. Higher ABV becomes evident after warming. M - full body; medium-light carbonation. O - a rich and malty brew, with well hidden higher ABV and a lasting dark malt aftertaste. An East Coast lower-hop Rogue. [from notes]

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler in late 2013. A: Black. S: Brown sugar. T: Brown sugar, malt, bitterness on back end. Has a familiar Dogfish Head flavor on the back end that seems to be in all of their beers. O: I wanted to like this one, but I got some bitterness from it that overwhelmed my palate. It had an aftertaste that I didnít like too, so I drain poured it. Brown ales are not my friend.

Pours a dark black with a slightly off white head into a tulip from bottle. Aroma is very nutty and a little sweet. It?s strong and appealing. Taste is a little dry. nicely roasted tastes. A fair bit of not intense but very present hops make this an interesting beer. Very intense carbonation but light on the mouth.

One of my favorite beers. The aroma is rich from the crack of the top, and the flavor matches.
