Opened the bottle and the smell of it bursts with caramelized sugar and malt. Tastes sweet but malted and balanced with a crisp hop bite in the front but mid and finish go down smooth like a brown ale. Caramel finish doesnt last long but it is easy drinkin

Old rating. Hazy brown pour. Roasted malts, coffee, caramel, with some hop brightnessz balance isn't entirely in check, but still an interesting decent brown.

12 pour from refrigerated bottle into a Spiegelau stout glass. Allowed to warm for a bit. Strong last. Moderate lacing and fairly strong retention. Brown or maybe dark ruby. Mostly opaque-- a tiny bit of transparency. Carbonation looks good. Nose is sugary, malty, and a little woody. Mouthfeel is a little weak, but mostly creamy. Taste is awesome. Scotch ale sweetness, brown ale maltiness, and a nice hoppy bitterness at the end. A bit of coffee and molasses. There?s a lot going on-- a bit hard for me to dissect the flavors. Great complexity.

March Madness 2015 - A nice brown ale but a really sour finish that is overpowering. So much potential but it doesn’t work for me.

March madness 2015. The aroma is not strong with coffee the most dominant contributor. The ale itself is smooth with good roasted malt notes. The roasted malt and hops work together nicely. The finish is not overly bitter.

Really decent brown ale with great caramel look, smell, and taste. Off white head sticks around with lacing all the way down. Really enjoyed this Dogfish Head version.

35 cl bottle @ home. Pours clear reddish brown with a white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are toffee, caramel, and dried fruit - with a slightly dry finish.

12oz bottle from Mitsuya’s poured into a tulip pint. Pours a dark chocolate brown color with a big beige head. Nice lacing. Sorghum, brown sugar, prune, currants and roasted grain on the nose. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Medium bodied leaning to the sweet side of the palate. As it warms up the fruit really stands out. Really solid brown ale.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2015 12oz bottle poured into a belgian tulip. The aroma is a malty chocolate and roasty coffee initially, but the chocolate fades. Coffee aromas remain in the form of fresh beans and are joined by earthy grains, brown sugar / molasses, gingersnap cookies, and raisins. The beer is crystal clear, oily, and lightly effervescent with a deep, dark, and rich caramel brown hue. It’s topped by an off-white, soapy head that retains a thick ring, a frothy foamy surface, a leaves a moderate, messy lace. The beer is a balanced, medium bittersweet. It’s smooth with a light, prickly carbonation, and a medium body. Lightly smokey flavors of raisin and cooked brown sugar merge with coffee and a light biscuit biscuit note on the palate. It finishes with a syrupy chocolate, roasted coffee, and cooked brown sugar blend, as well as a light charred note. The aftertaste is lightly astringent as well as cloying with a sticky sugar character, and light flavors of coffee, clean ginger, and bread.
