Pours dark brown, medium head with some nice lacing. Sweet dark candy aroma. I would say caramel, but it’s darker than that, more roasted. Slight noble hop aroma. Flavor is sweet with huge, dominating presence of the caramelized brown sugar. Not nearly enough hop bitterness to balance the sweet roasted flavor and syrupy mouthfeel. Almost felt like I was drinking molasses. Not what I expected at all.

Oct 11, 2008 Pours a dark brown that almost appears black in low lighting, however, has reddish tint when illuminated. Has a thick, frothy, sustainable head. Aromas of toasted malt, molasses, and brown sugar that really penetrated through my nostrils. Had great flavors of toasted wood chips, coffe malt, raisins, and a great blend of brown-sugar sweetness with a great hoppy finish. Has a dry finish and is medium bodied. I am a real fan of this beer even though brown ale is usually not my favorite style.

Oct 8, 2008 Great brown ale. I expected it to be a little creamier, but it is very full bodied and full flavored. Molasses and brown sugar flavor, but well balanced so that it isn’t too sweet. Light hoppiness in the background. Very drinkable. Low carbonation. No taste of alcohol. Some chocolate in the finish.

Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep dark mahogany color with a big hearty tan head that has amazing retention and wonderful lacing. This is one of the most perfect looking beers I have ever seen. The nose is VERY complex. I get aromas of chocolate malt, coffee, a slight hint of wood and you can even pull the brown sugar in the description out. Smell wonderful. WOW...this doesn’t taste like anything I have ever drank before. It is very malty and then the hop bitterness kicks in, then it finished like a porter and leaves a nice roasted coffee and chocolate flavor lingering in the back of your throat. This beer is wonderful! Another winner from an amazing brewery!!!

Oct 6, 2008 This is a damn good beer. The scent is a familiar scent of a stout I used to get at a local brewery (since the recipe has changed it has never quite been the same). You can smell the bitterness of the hops and barley with a hint of coffee. The color is a dark brown a few shades below a stout. The palate is amazingly smooth and creamy. Finally the taste is exactly what it says on the bottle. This is an all around great beer!

Oct 5, 2008 This ale pours a very dark brown with a nice tan head. The nose is of roasted malt, dark chocolate,and caramel. Taste is pretty layered. Unsweetened chocolate,raisins,roasted coffee,and good hop backbone. Full bodied and not a wimpy brown. Paired it with a Tastykake & it was Great!
