12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a 2 finger off white head. Very dark,, almost as dark as an average stout. Mild carbonation with a malty light alcohol aroma. Wonderful flavor with hints of chocolate and coffee, full bodied... not bitter and well balanced. Nice crisp short finish. Nice malt finishes medium sweet with a touch of complexity lingers, but still a very smooth brown ale. Dogfish takes everything that they do seriously, don’t they? If tasting brown ales, make sure this one makes your list.

Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale has a very thick, crackly-sounding, beige head, a dark brown (with lighter, ruby-brown highlights), and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, dark bread crust, nuts, and malt. Taste is of a noticeable charred roastiness, sweet brown bread crust, some nut, licorice, and dark-roasted malt. Bitterness is there, and it increases. Mouthfeel is medium, and Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale finishes semi-dry, not very alcoholic, and easy drinking. RJT

Now this. This my friends is a brown ale. For me, it is right there with Bell’s which I think is about as good a brown ale as it comes. A deep rubby brown beer with a thick creamy tan head that lingers through my tasting process. Smells of sweet carmalized roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Rich roasted, burnt malt taste, sweet. Coffee essence follows and chocolate brings up the rear. No distinct flavor in the hops. This is a full body beer with some alcohol warming on finish. This is an excellent fall beer that compliments both English styles very well and the autumn season itself. Drink well my friends

355ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Rating from April 2013. Sweetness in the aroma is contrasted by some bitterness in the flavour. Well brewed malty brown ale with a boozy finish.

Aromas of caramel, raw maple, milk chocolate, earthy hops, coffee. Clear, dark ruby-brown with a fully lasting beige head. Off-dry, maltiness upfront, savory, earthy nutty flavors, finishes with well-balanced hops. Medium bodied, with cleansing carbonation.

Dark body, thin tan head. Very sweet aroma with raisins and molasses. Mouthfeel is really smooth. Taste is a bit hollow and there’s not much else besides a slightly bitter IPA aftertaste. It’s very drinkable though but probably better paired with some food. By itself it’s a bit of a letdown for me.
