12-oz bottle. A: The ale is a dark mahogany color, so deep red that appears black from afar. A very tall rocky and persistent tan head. Excellent lacing. A: Highly aromatic. The nose is malty, thick with a smoky undertone that drips with peat and alcohol-soaked cherries. Caramel malts add further heft to the body. T: A balanced smoky brown beer. Darker malts, toasted with chocolate, coffee and caramel, lead the way. They are followed almost immediately with a palpable smoky flavor. The result is thick and almost coarse brew. Hop flavor manages to peak through the malts and smoke but just barely. A very enjoyable drink. P: The mouthfeel is full, smoky and thick, but not so heavy that it is burdensome. I was edxpecting a run of the mill brown ale but, knowing DFH, I should have known otherwise. Finish is fairly dry. P: They label is a brown ale, but it sure tastes like a scotch ale. The finish is not heavy so you go right back for another drink. Excellent balance overall.

Certainly one of the best brown ales I’ve had. Aroma is barley, malts, and toasted sugar...taste is lots of caramelized sugar, brand flakes...hops too...finish is dry enough with some lingering sweetness and grainy flavor...adequately fizzy...it smells like autumn...

Keg@magic rock tap
hazy cocoa brown with thin beige lacing. Chocolate orange nose, moderate body and carbonation, pithy citrus and toasty cocoa& coffee notes, dry but brief finish...more brown ale than iba...not as hopped as expected

Opaque brown turbidity with no head. Pungent dark chocolate, malt, scotch, caramel, vanilla, roast, and dried fruit aroma. Truly outstanding scent. Light bodied and quite smooth. Absolutely incredible flavour. Initial taste is a relatively sweet malty combination of vanilla, scotch, caramel, and chocolate, whereas the finish consists of roast, dried fruit, mild hops, and a slight lingering sweetness. Incredible.

Slikket bajer, dog i en svært kedelig flaske. Ikke imponeret over designet. Duften en smule røget, lidt a la brunt værtshus og læder møbler balsameret med nikotin. Smager let af malt og kaffe, samt jeg tror der er nok sukker i til at de er sponsoreret af Dansukker. Udemærket.

Bottle - Thanks Martin! Pours a deep clear brown with a white head. Aroma of roasted malts and hops, more than Im used to for the style. A bit of vanilla and coffee on the nose. Taste is coffee, quite bitter, a bit of vanilla. I will never love this style, despite of the heavier use of hops in this one.

On tap at Beavertown Rainbow Project 2015, Tottenham, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, coffee, caramel aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee, caramel. Nicely complex, a great effort from Dogfish Head.
