3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of roast coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a wisp of soy sauce. Appears a deep cherrywood color, with a small brown head that dissipates. Flavor is both roasty and smoky at the start, giving we to a depp malt backbone, and finishing with an assertive though mellow hop bitterness - a tad salty at the finish. Palate is medium-thick and slick on the tongue. Overall, a unique brew that defies classification but that is somehow supremely balanced.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep reddish brown. Notes of raisin, brown sugar, toffee. Would be too sweet but it finishes nicely dry and hoppy. Flavors are big and clear, and it’s very refreshing and drinkable for the style/abv. Overall a very nice beer, and an old favorite, though it’s not as superlative as I remembered.

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for this bottle. Toller karamell-toffee Geruch. Toll!

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler from the Southern Filling Station. Dark brown, with a small, beige head. Nice malty character of toffee, espresso, oak, and molasses. Sweet and malty, with a light, pleasant bitterness. Medium body, chalet, creamy, and clean. This is one of my gateway beers, but I’ve missed rating until now. It’s better than I remembered, and I remembered it being good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A - very dark brown, near black, with mahogany highlights. Large tan head with good duration.
Aroma: medium and dark roasted malts; perhaps a slight hop spiciness. ABV well hidden but with a floral note.
T: rich malt flavor leading to a lasting malty finish and aftertaste. Hops make their presence known mainly in the clear bitterness of the finish. Higher ABV becomes evident after warming.
M - full body; medium-light carbonation.
O - a rich and malty brew, with well hidden higher ABV and a lasting dark malt aftertaste. An East Coast lower-hop Rogue.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler in late 2013.
S: Brown sugar.
T: Brown sugar, malt, bitterness on back end. Has a familiar Dogfish Head flavor on the back end that seems to be in all of their beers.
O: I wanted to like this one, but I got some bitterness from it that overwhelmed my palate. It had an aftertaste that I didn’t like too, so I drain poured it. Brown ales are not my friend.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a dark black with a slightly off white head into a tulip from bottle. Aroma is very nutty and a little sweet. It?s strong and appealing. Taste is a little dry. nicely roasted tastes. A fair bit of not intense but very present hops make this an interesting beer. Very intense carbonation but light on the mouth.
