La Saison des Fraises, or “strawberry season” in French, is a Belgian Style Saison brewed with local strawberries and rhubarb from our friends over at Fifer Orchards. We were able to squeeze this one in right at the end of strawberry season. Brewed with pilsner, wheat, and acidulated malts, and then delicately hopped with earthy Czech Saaz, and fermented along with the fruit by Saison yeast originating from France. This tart dry ale is perfect for hot summer days, just as Saison would have been enjoyed by the Belgian field workers of centuries past. A nice malt flavor with subtle hints of strawberry, accompanied by gentle acidity derived from the acidulated malt and rhubarb. As the description suggests this beer would be best paired with lighter fair, going best with veggies and/or fish

On tap at the Rehoboth brewpub. Pours a murky yellow color with an orange hue and fluffy white foam head. Aroma of earthiness and funk with a subtle but noticeable layer of strawberry. Has that foamy silky saison feel. Taste is of lemongrass with a smooth tartiness that flows right into the gentle strawberry finish. Really well done. Perfect to session on the back porch in the afternoon of a hot day. I initially would have called this a 3.7/3.8. But when going through each category it rates higher.

Draft at brewpub. Super cloudy, murkey orange color. Nice aroma of some strawberries, fruity but not in a girly drink (sweet) way. Taste follows the nose. Fruity strawberries, flowers, light banana, hay. This beer has a nice acidic taste, but it keeps its roots. Earthy and dry. Body is light, good amount of carbontion. Oveall: Another low alcohol brew that I enjoyed on a hot summer day

A brewpub exclusive beer on draft at the Rehoboth pub. Sorry, I didn’t enter a commercial description when adding the beer. This saison poured a murky and cloudy color that resembled dirty water. The nose was a little on the fruity side, with some notes of yeast and carbonation. The body was smooth and drinkable with a funky mouthfeel. The flavors were funky and fruity as well, with some notes of yeast and bread. This was a hell of a lot different than any other saison I’ve tried. But then again, one would expect that coming from the brewers at Dogfish.
