This Brewpub Exclusive is the brainchild of brewer Jeremy Hunt - it’s called ’Le Kabouter de Guerre’ which means ’The Gnome of War.’ It’s sort of an homage to Houblon Chouffe, a Belgian Double IPA. But, while La Chouffe’s mascot is a happy little gnome, La Kabouter is an angry one. Big bitterness and big hop flavor. Jeremy dry hopped the beer and says it is a monster! The grain bill is quite simple; A lot of pale 2 row, some Munich and some wheat as well as some Belgian Candy sugar to dry it out. A Belgian yeast strain was used to add some complexity of flavor and some tasty esters and phenolics, but this is a hop bomb for sure. Using Amarillo, Cascade, and Palisade hops, between the first wort hopping, the boil additions and the dry hopping, this little angry elf should clock in at about 92 IBU’s and 8.9% alcohol. All in all, it’s roughly 3.1 lbs of juicy American hops per Bbl! Jeremy says he sure had a lot of fun brewing this beast and he hopes that our rabid patrons will enjoy it.

On tap at brewery. Pours a hazy golden color with a dense head and light lacing. Has a floral hop aroma with sweet and citrus friut undertones. Flavor is big bitter and earthy hoppiness with sweet fruit and doughy malt. Big hop flavor is not too overpowering and doesn’t take away from the beer. Medium bodied with a slightly dry finish.

My first Belgian Double IPA, and what an experience. Served on tap at the brewpub. Nicely undertoning the hops. They are there, but skillfully used. Better as it warmed with more spice and graininess popping up. At 8.9, this is a heavy hitter, about an hour after you finish it.

On tap @ Rehoboth Brewpub-Hazy golden color w/a moderate white head & good lacing. Floral hop aroma. Had a definite floral hop flavor on the front end mixed w/some spice. Did have a finish of sweetness, yeast, & wheat/dread dough. La Chouffe is a good comparison, but this has a little more hop to it. Solid brew, not quite as hoppy as some of their other IPA’s.

Draft @ rehoboth. Poured into a pint glass, small head with an orangish color. Aroma is spicey, earthy and hoppy. Taste is intially super bitter but earthy and spicey in the after taste. As it warmed up a little wheat and belgian yeast came through. Dry.... Medium texture. Overall a nice beer.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours with a solid medium head with a hazy golden color. The aroma starts off a little weird and stinky... not funky just stinky, this is quickly eclipsed by lots of fruitiness and fresh hops with plenty of pineapple character. The flavor is fruity with some grapefruit and pineapple with some well complimentary banana, there is a fairly intense bitterness and the sweetness is well controlled. tasty!
