Rhizing Bines is a collaborative IPA using the best of both coasts: Carolina-grown red fife wheat and Dogfish Head’s continual-hopping from the East and Sierra Nevada’s estate-grown caramel malt and Torpedo dry-hopping from the west.

Bottle on 02/18/13 Beautiful golden beer with perfect head. Very clean and crisp as expected from Dogfish and Sierra Nevada. Nose is very sweet, almost like cotton candy with sweet melon dominating. Melon is so strong in the flavor, I didn't even know this was possible in a beer. I guess that's the #644 hops. It begins almost sickeningly sweet, gushing with melon flavor, but crisp hop bite and more typical citrus flavors from the Bravo come through just in time to finish it off. Sweet melon notes linger for a while. Very much worth a try for how unique it is although a too sweet for me to keep coming back to. I'll be very interested to see what can be done with #644 in the future.

Pours a very pretty golden copperish color with nice big frothy head. Aroma is a bit stale, not what I like from my IPA. Must be the wheat. Hops are there and slightly piney and a little floral. Flavor is very floral with some bitterness up front. A little candy sweetness fades into a mix of dry wheaty funk and light fruits (pear? White grape? Light to medium mouthfeel with light to medium carbonation. Decent beer, but I was hoping for more from this collab.

Nice hard hoppiness. Wheat almost rye bread. Earthy. Good stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Really liked this one. Aroma is nondescript hops, not in a bad way, in a good way. Lots of head. Flavor is bitter throughout, lots of pine and citrus (grapefruit). Malt backbone holds up well to the bitterness. All in all a great Imperial IPA.

A collaboration of two awesome breweries. 12 oz draft. Awesome golden color with modest head and excellent lace. Not a ton of aroma but the taste makes up for it. Extremely smooth with perfume flavor of hops. Mild bitterness on the tongue but very complex flavors. Slight earthy taste along with amazing yeasts. Wonderful beer.

From the bottle. Clear and shiny orange pour with a generous white and fluffy head. Taste is bready, piney and citrusy. Dry finish. Drinkable and good.

Draft at DFH Alehouse in Falls Church. Pours orange with small offwhite head into snifter. Aroma is hop-heavy, citrus and pine. Taste is initially dominated by the citrus hops. After about 1/3 into the glass, the hops and malt breathe and come into balance as the palate adjusts. Excellent mouthfeel, lingering bitter aftertaste. Ultimately failed to meet my high expectations, but still very good.

750 mL bottle from Dogfish Brewing & Eats in Rehoboth Beach (bottled January 26, 2013). Pours dark orange with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, and wet grass with caramel and Earthy notes. The caramel malt is certainly present in the flavor and rather than balance the bitterness from the hops almost seems to be working in contrast. While the flavor is still good I can only imagine that this would be a better beer if the hops were given the opportunity to shine. In my opinion, a good, just not great DIPA.
