Rhizing Bines is a collaborative IPA using the best of both coasts: Carolina-grown red fife wheat and Dogfish Head’s continual-hopping from the East and Sierra Nevada’s estate-grown caramel malt and Torpedo dry-hopping from the west.

From a properly chilled bottle: Poured with a massive, cream-colored, foamy, frothy head that lasts to the bottom of the glass and good lacing. Color is a clear amber with a few bubble trails. Aroma at first reminded me of oxidized hops, but then other qualities, such as caramel malt, spice, grass, & peppers, come through and round things out. Flavor’s like nose, bitter is in front, fairly dry except in the finish where some residual sweetness lies; carbonic tang is just right. Body/carbonation are perfect for this brew. Finish is as stated above, has a bit of alcohol warmth, and has some length. This is a welcome reminder of more traditional American IPAs with a sense of balance. Very quaffable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Nimrod’s place. Thanks Nimrod. Floaties, clear golden with white head. Delicate sweet apple bubblegum and shampoo aroma, generic bitter with a little citrus in the mouth. Light body, a little oily texture and bitter finish.

750 ml bottle poured into an IPA glass. Pours bright orange with thick white head. Aroma is earthy herbal fresh hops. Taste is clean mild caramel malt followed by bitter floral earthy hops. Bitter rye notes in the finish. Solid, and I like the adventurous angle here, but with this abv and the Dogfish name attached, I was expecting a bit more hops.

Pours light amber with large white head out of bottle. Strong floral scent with hint of hops and malt. Citrus flavor with notes of spice and hops. Good beer but I hoped for more hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle sample at the Dogfish Head tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 6/27/13. Clear gold pour with a thick off-white head. Aroma of malt, maple and biscuit. Malty flavor with maple and old hop accents before a sweet finish. Guessing it was better when it was fresher.

Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly neutral, hops, dried fruits, lawn, leafs, caramel. Taste is slightly concentrated, soap, tangerine, hops, pine needles, lawn, wet leafs, dried fruits. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Nice, but not really my kind of beer.

Pours orange-tea into the glass, with a very soda-esque look, whipped carbonation head and soapy lacing. The nose is of musty hops, earthen and floral, with spices. Flavors are spicy and dry, with caramel, bread, light toast, citrus, and finishing with toffee and vanilla, spices and a hint of biscuit flour. The easy-drinking palate and active mouthfeel provides a body of substance and complexity with a superbly smooth quaff. Sweetness opens up as it warms, and is delicious.

Amber in color with a nice white head. Nice bitterness here. Hops in the nose - a fairly mild double IPA.

Appearance: Pours bright amber tinted gold. Tight bubbles within the white head.

Aroma: Toasty sweet malt, piney earthy hops.

Taste: Toasty sweet malt, piny hops. A touch fruity.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied,a tad astringent. Pleasant carbonation.

Overall: This beer was exactly what I expected. A very malt forward IPA, similar to some of the Estate beers and good old 90 Minute. I didn’t notice wheat in it, but I probably need more time with the beer. Delicious and worth trying.
