Light clear amber/copper colour with a thin white head. Aroma of blood, metal, cardboard, slight hops and even some berries. Medium-bodied; Interesting mouthful that has (incredibly) no offensive tastes. Light corn flavour throughout and a small mealy maltiness. Some hops line the palate with the beer ending oddly sweet! Aftertaste lingers with sweetness and finishes very well! Overall, a crazy experience, but very pleased! I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Phil (haddon90) for picking me up this bottle from the brewery 14-May-2004. I can’t wait to see people rate this when it ’officially’ comes out! I sampled this the day I got back from college at RIT-so its a nice treat!

Bought this at the Brewpub in Rehoboth. Deep golden color with minimal head. Sweet, some malt, hoppy in the aroma. Kind of wierd. Smooth taste, yet kind of dry. Definitely probably one of the premier malt liquors...even though that’s not my style. Certainly interesting to say the least.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2005 AOBF 04. 40oz. Light yellow to pale gold pour, looks wavy and syrupy. Moderate white head and light lacing. Smells of lots of lager yeast, pale crisp apples, light corn sugar. Flavor begins with an alcohol kick and some lightly sweet malt, and then develops in to a full corn flavored roller coaster. Lots of sweet corn flavor, no hops apparency and a nice fiery finish to it. The mouthfeel is smooth, lightly syrupy and medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation gives it an added zing. The corn was fresh, the flavors got a bit boring, but it is was it says it is. Dont drink this expecting anything else. Just a well-made malt liquor, and should be judged as such. I think it’s unfair to say, DFH makes much better beers. They certainly do, but you have to keep in mind what they were trying to brew here. This thing puts any other malt liquor I’ve tried to shame. No stale flavors, no harsh ethanol taste, no disgusting thick corn-syrupy feel. If DFH distributed this to my area, I’d be buyin a bunch of it. Bottle conditioned?? Hell yes, these guys have outdone themselves.
Rerate 2004 bottle that has now aged about a year. At first, the alcohol smell is a bit off-putting, but then I remember I’m drinking a malt liquor and dive in. Sweet, flowery-like corn notes, with some alcohol and sharpness, but as it warms, this stuff gets really good. Very smooth, even, drinkable body and texture. Just a well-brewed corn lager with alcohol apparency. The bottle conditioning has done wonders and should continue to do so.

AoBF ’04: Orange hue. Small creamy white head. Corn corn and more corn, this stuff is actually pretty darn good in my opinion, for what it is. I also love Sam, and he hooked it up real nice, oh yah!

Art of Beer ’04: Clear yellow/orange with white head. Very little aroma. Taste is sweet corn. Compared to other Dogfish Head beers it’s pretty crappy, but it’s damn cool that it come in a brown paper bag. Roll me another blunt and pass the 40!

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2004 Art of Beer Festival 2004 served by Sam: Chunky orange with a creamy head. Light fruits and corm in the aroma, medium bodied, starts sweet and ends sweeter than that. If you never had a good tasting corn based beer, then try this, although you’ll want some help with the 40OZ bottle. Gimmicky, but interesting. Starts and ends sweet.
