COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

12 oz single bottle from Tipsy’s. Copper and hazy with a white head that eventually dissipates. Strong, boozy, malty aroma. Similar flavor with dark fruit. Full body with a creamy feel and soft carbonation. The alcohol is present, even at room temperature. This one could use some aging.

Keg at the Ginger Man, NYC, 23/11/13. Clear amber with a good sized beige head. Nose is stewed dark fruits, brown sugars, steeped prunes, dates, rich cake mix all masked with a boozey-do cloak. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, stewed dark fruits, light spice, raisens, woody tang, caramelised sugars, booze is not too shy but not over cooked. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the conclusion. Decent barleywine, you know it has a kick but is ever so drinkable for the ABV, well integrated - you’d take a stab at 10%. Nice work.

10 Dec 2013, bottle. yellow/orange, clear, steady bubbles. nose is definitely figgy. med body, a bit syrupy, faintly fizzy. sugary figs, very noticeable alcohol. a bit juvenile. i think aging would be very good for this. still, pretty good.

12oz bottle pours a red cooper with a small white head. Fruit and sweet malt taste. A bit of a alcohol finish but great tasting beer for 15%

Tart, sweet yet heavy aroma. Thin off white head and golden amber in color. Very sweet start and heavy mouth feel. Really balanced end though. Not much into barleywines but this one is quite nice.

2008 vintage tasted in 2003 on draft at Capone’s Sweet and syrupy. The figs and dates come through heavily. Flavors concentrate with aging - so fresh might be better if you don’t like an overly sweet barelywine.

Nose is a bit one note, alcohol with honey. Head fades quick. Nice hop note, lots of malt, sweet maple and honey, but not too sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear hazelnut pour with a thin head that fades down to next to nothing. Spotty lacing. Aroma has strong sticky date and caramel with a faint hint of alcohol. Taste is sweet figs, dates, honey, and a slight earthy note. Alcohol does not show in the taste. Sticky on the palate with some warmth on the way. A little on the sweet side but still pretty good.
