COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Damned near perfect beer IMHO. Complex quicksilver mouth feel, boozy and warming, with a balanced hop/malt profile. I wish I had the patience to age this, but we never can keep our hands off of it.

Smells like raisin. Has a sweet guilty taste with a chocolate finish. Heavy, full bodied beer. Rich and delicious.

2010 bottle share at Proof. Poured amber brown with almost no head. Aroma is a warm, sweet malty bomb, with a slight hint of dark fruit. Taste is somehow sweet citrus, earthy, and a touch of that dark fruit. Kinda boozey. Medium body, almost no carbonation. Great beer overall.

2011 A: pours apricot ale with a finger of off-white foam which falls quickly to a sheet of the same. cherry tones. near excellent clarity. S: smells like all of DFH beers that are high gravity: sour grapes, acetone, other horrid esters. T: sweet and alcoholic. Man, Im really not disappointed, because I half anticipated this would taste similar to the others in the series. M: thin, hi carb, semi dry. O: this beer is shit. Gimmick. Never again. Slightly hazy copper pour with a small white head. Big aromas of dark fruit and brown sugar. Little boozy on the nose too. Flavor is intense, big malt character with the dates and figs coming out nicely. The abv definitely makes itself known as well, this is a slow sipper for sure. Long and rich finish. Gonna set a few aside for a year or two and see how this one ages. Tasty brew!

12 oz single bottle from Tipsys. Copper and hazy with a white head that eventually dissipates. Strong, boozy, malty aroma. Similar flavor with dark fruit. Full body with a creamy feel and soft carbonation. The alcohol is present, even at room temperature. This one could use some aging.

Keg at the Ginger Man, NYC, 23/11/13. Clear amber with a good sized beige head. Nose is stewed dark fruits, brown sugars, steeped prunes, dates, rich cake mix all masked with a boozey-do cloak. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, stewed dark fruits, light spice, raisens, woody tang, caramelised sugars, booze is not too shy but not over cooked. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the conclusion. Decent barleywine, you know it has a kick but is ever so drinkable for the ABV, well integrated - youd take a stab at 10%. Nice work.

10 Dec 2013, bottle. yellow/orange, clear, steady bubbles. nose is definitely figgy. med body, a bit syrupy, faintly fizzy. sugary figs, very noticeable alcohol. a bit juvenile. i think aging would be very good for this. still, pretty good.

12oz bottle pours a red cooper with a small white head. Fruit and sweet malt taste. A bit of a alcohol finish but great tasting beer for 15%

Tart, sweet yet heavy aroma. Thin off white head and golden amber in color. Very sweet start and heavy mouth feel. Really balanced end though. Not much into barleywines but this one is quite nice.
