COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Pours a clear auburn body with limited head. Cloyingly sweet aroma of pipe tobacco, sweet bread, and fruit. Earthy taste accented by red delicious apples and chili pepper. Tingly astringent finish attempts to subdue the sweetness. Potent, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Pours a hazy Amber/light brown with a small khaki head. Head retention is ok. AROMA: caramel, roasty, alcohol, herbs, earthy, slight raisin, bittersweet fruit, little pineapple, spice, hop bitterness and light citrus. TASTE: caramel, malty, alcohol, hop bitterness, spice, roasty, tropical fruit, light citrus, herbs, spruce, earthy, peppercorns, red wine acidic, cinnamon, clove, brown sugar and slight vinegar. AFTER TASTE: spice, cinnamon, hop bitterness, malty and brown sugar with a oily rich finish and boozy warmth all the way through.

Bottled 10/27/14. Pours very clear orange ruby color. Very small ring of off white lacing on the outside. Very beautiful color. Aroma is (first and foremost) boozy, toffee, figs, dates, many sweet dark fruits, lots of candied sugar, and just a spot of citrus hops in the background to brighten this one up. Pretty much what you’d expect from a DFH high abv barleywine. Flavor is boozy. Lots of alcohol, lots and lots of heat from that, toffee, vanilla, figs, again candied sugar. But so boozy. It’s excellent but I think this one needs a few years on it. I would love to have this aged 2 years.

Nice bubbles, beautiful light copper color. An off-white head quickly recedes to a ring. Smells bright and fruity, with green apples, figs, flowers, and a certain sourness. A light alcohol burn is also noticeable, as is a slight metallic aroma. Sweet maltiness in the flavor. Dark fruits, raisins, prunes at the start. Bright citrusy fruit flavors hit at the swallow. A definite alcohol kick comes up through the nose after the swallow. The alcohol could’ve been more well-hidden, but then, this thing is 15%. Medium carbonation, very full-bodied, almost syrupy. Warmth assaults at the swallow. Due to the heavy body and very noticeable alcohol content, this is a sipper. I’ll finish this glass, but barely.

Bottled 10/24/14. Cloudy rust-orange with a bit of sediment; pours slightly effervescent with a paper-thin head. Smell is warm alcohol, rich caramel and sherry fruitiness. Taste is deep fruit, just a little on the sweet side, rich syrupy bourbon/sherry flavors with plenty of alcohol warmth. Fig/date character comes out as it warms in the glass. Slightly carbonated with a warm drying finish.

Sweet malty aromas mix with fig and fruit come from this cloudy red orange brew. A full body sweet figgy taste comes with the alcohol taste and burn mixes with the bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad for a barley wine even though the color isn't what I expected.

Pours a clear golden with a small white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of light alcohol, figs and yellow fruits. Taste is of plum, caramel, lightly bitter and moderately boozy. Doesn’t drink like a 15% beer, more like 12%. lol Body is medium, carbonation light and mouthfeel a little sticky. Light alcohol warmth but still under control. Overall a fine sipper, better than expected.

Took me awhile to try this one. On tap at HOTB. Pours a deep reddish brown with just the slightest off white head. Aromas of caramel, big candied vanilla dark fruits. Almost Brandy like. Alcohol is in the aroma. Smells amazing. Tastes sweet and syrupy with little alcohol burn. Wow.
