3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle served in a snifter. Bottle conditioned. Poured a hazy amber with a quickly dissipating white head. Fairly alcoholic nose. Plenty of malt sweetness as well. A little port-like oxidation. Full bodied and a little syrupy. Very sweet with some dark fruit flavors. Plenty of hop bitterness, but not enough to balance the sweetness. Seemed under attenuated.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cloudy and brown in the glass with a minimal amount of head. Aromas of champagne, bread, yeast and tart cherry. Palate is cloying and sweet, and a bit of a disappointment. Sour raspberry, cherry syrup, a medicinal quality, and a bunch of pit fruit. With this much alcohol in the beer, one would expect it to be sharp and bright, but the flavors are muddy and astringency overwhelms any delicate balance the hops in there would have struck with the fruit and malt. Maybe a bad bottle, I don’t know. My experience seems to be different from others on this one.

draft, ok this is what you want from a Barley Wine. High octane, 15%abv, you can taste it, and this beer will warm you up. Full bodied, in your face, everything you would want in this style. Not for me, but the beer is on style and a good brew for this style.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a dark amber with a thin white head and spotted lacing. 3 year old vintage. Smells heavy of figgs and booze. It taste almost exactly like it smells. In the right proportions this would be a winner but the dates figs and alcohol is all too much. When i started buying olde school i thought it just need to sit longer to be tasty, but if 3years isnt scratching the surface, I’m dubious 5+ would be any better.

On tap. Nice amber color with small white head, dissipated quickly. Aroma is alcohol, dark fruit, bready, and floral. Taste is similar. Raisins, dates, slightly toasty and boozy.

Bottle from the Austin Flying Saucer. Orange pour with a small white head. Aroma is light oranges and bread. Taste is sticky, lots of booze, heavy bread, and no trace of dates/figs for me.
