COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

12 oz. bottle served in a snifter. Bottle conditioned. Poured a hazy amber with a quickly dissipating white head. Fairly alcoholic nose. Plenty of malt sweetness as well. A little port-like oxidation. Full bodied and a little syrupy. Very sweet with some dark fruit flavors. Plenty of hop bitterness, but not enough to balance the sweetness. Seemed under attenuated.

draft, ok this is what you want from a Barley Wine. High octane, 15%abv, you can taste it, and this beer will warm you up. Full bodied, in your face, everything you would want in this style. Not for me, but the beer is on style and a good brew for this style.

On tap. Nice amber color with small white head, dissipated quickly. Aroma is alcohol, dark fruit, bready, and floral. Taste is similar. Raisins, dates, slightly toasty and boozy.

Bottle from the Austin Flying Saucer. Orange pour with a small white head. Aroma is light oranges and bread. Taste is sticky, lots of booze, heavy bread, and no trace of dates/figs for me.

Clear, pale apricot color, slim-to-none head. Aroma: fiery fruit, not terribly forward, either, just rather naked with the alcohol, accompanied by hints of peach, orange, cherry...and booze. taste: boom! A blitz of boozalicious rough fruity flavor, ...very warming, and a bit punishing, as well...this is not a delicate affair, in the least. Over the top and out of the stratosphere. Not sure why itís called "Olde School", this a newfangled Sturm Und Drang. Stings quite a bit on the palate, too, with an unfavorable flavor. Rather thin in body for all the boom-shak-a-lacka it brings in the mouth. Something this bold with the booze should really have a beefier body to match the lashing liquor. As it is, way too hot. Iím going to chase this with a Bellís Third Coast Old Ale to reassociate my tongue with a real barleywine.
