COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

12oz bottle from 2009. Hazy with sediment dark amber, dark cream head that fades fairly quickly. Old figs, some oak, raisins, dried prunes but not sweet, hint of apricot, alcohol is present but not overwhelming, some brown sugar, orange peel. Full body, moderate to low carbonation, almost evaporates off the tongue, lots of fruit, a little too sweet but still a delicious beer.

12 oz bottle. Park Rapids, MN. Pours golden orange with a small ring of white head. Aroma is fig, strong alcohol, malty. Body in full. rich texture. There is a little burn in the finish. Overall this is pretty nice. Alcohol is very present, but it is a 15% beer. aroma and texture are great.

An exercise in not getting excited. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with barely a touch of off-white head at first. On the second pour I did get about a finger-width of fluffy foam. A fair soapy lace hangs on as the head descends. Nose is a train-wreck of nail polish remover and butter (which caused me to shudder repeatedly), along with notes of apricot and brown sugar. Extremely sweet, and pretty bitter as well. Thick body yet kind of light somehow, fairly active but syrupy, finishing with some tartness and bitterness. Very disappointing. Clearly, this isnít meant to be drank fresh, and at 15% ABV, I guess I should have known that. But Iím not the one who made a beer with prominent aromatics of nail polish remover and butter, so Iím not taking the fall for this one.

Olde School pours a cloudy deep orange with a decent one finger light tan brown head that lasts a solid 30 seconds. The aroma definitely features alcohol, but it also has floral and molasses. The flavor is floral, caramel and the alcohol is noticeable, but not as prominent as the nose would lead you to believe. Overall this is a very nice brew.

On tap at the Tipsy Cow in Madison. Hazy orange with thin head. Aroma of oak, booze, dark fruit. Amazing taste, I mean wow. Caramel, fig, molasses, bourbon, oak, some floral hops, candied sugar. Sweet, bourbon, oak finish. Slightly warming. This was impressive ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Tipples. Pours orange with a small off white head. Aroma of booze, sweet caramel, figs, fruits. Big and sweet. Flavor is also huge sweetness, fruit flavors, honey and caramel, booze, and a little more booze. Heavy bodied, medium carbonation, hot on the throat. This was decent enough I guess. Wouldnít pay the $5 or $6 again for a bottle again though.

Light reddish orange body. Medium fast dissipating head. Has that dogfish head smell. Fruity fig aroma. Very fruity tasting for a barleywine.

This is a very strong beer. You almost have to chew it. Very malty and delicious, but also very strong. Not much hops to it. I did drink it very fresh though and have a couple bottles to age, so Iím excited to see what happens to it.

Hazy orange or copper pour with minimal head. Aroma is sweet dark fruit. Taste is the same. Not overwhelming. Pleasant.
