jrallen34 (67), Illinois, USA Jul 3, 2009 I drank this from a bottle in a chalice.
This is dark pouring beer, not a great head or lacing.
It has a great smell of wood, nuts, and chocolate.
Taste of wood, smoke, and vanilla. This is very good beer, probably taken up a notch though because of its lore. BNSLY (20), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 3, 2009 July 2,2009
Pours dark with a hint of lacing. Smells incredible, lots of vanilla, nuts, and malt. A very bold beer taste alot of vanilla, malt, smoke, wood, and alcohol. Overall it is a great beer and the alcohol sneaks up on you. enjoy. Hopcrazy (15), Washington, USA Jul 1, 2009 Pours thick with a near black color, and smallish dark brown head. Not much lace to speak of, but wouldn’t expect too much at 12 abv. smell of brown sugar. Tastes like a stout, with a woody molasses, coffee and chochlote mix. Yummy. duff (5469), East London, Greater London, England Jun 29, 2009 Draught@Julians, Providence, RI. Something nice happening, but nothing spectacular, some roasted malt, quite soft, and seems less than the 12%. Pretty decent, but just didin’t strike a huge chord with me. Tasty though!!!! dnstone (55), , New Jersey, USA Jun 29, 2009 Maple and wood tones on a deep brown ale with a great warming alcohol kick in the throat. This is by far one of the best beers around. cmonster (40), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 27, 2009 Bottle served in a snifter. Pours oil black with a thin, light grey-brown head. Aroma has chocolate, nuts, and roasted malt notes present. Flavor is mostly sweet: Rich, sugary caramel malt. Mouthfeel and finish is where its really happening. Full bodied. Slick, creamy, and slightly fizzy with a malty sweetness that coats the tongue for a long time. Tweety (309), Vancouver, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2009 Smells great and drinks smooth, but just not as much flavor as I woulda hoped for. The story behind this beer is better than the beer itself (Google the New Yorker story on Sam Calagione).
