Commercial Description:
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

Rich, sweet malts, but it still tastes like a malt beverage of some kind. Interesting edge of fruit. Too highly carbonated. Like an Impy Brown or something. Bottle.

Relatively weak aroma of molasses and toffee. Darker than expected black color, with a thin tan head, good lacing. Full body, molasses and chocolate syrup flavor. Bitter chocolate and wood hangs around far too long. Wow, this is just too heavy. Maybe this should be a winter seasonal. I certainly didn’t enjoy it during the dog days of summer.

Botella, huge thanks to Morten for sharing this one! Pitch black colour. Very sweet, woody, very dark fruity, alco, roasty malty, chocolate, very pleasant aroma indeed. Great filling quite sticky mouthfeel. The flavour is very sweet with wood and bourbon, roastedmalt, alcohol, lots of dark fruits, spice, sirup and with a pleasant bitter sweet roasty long lasting finish.

4-pack. Thick lasting brown head on black beer. Very strong aroma with plenty of alcohol malt and probably wood. Some spices waft up with the wood but its hard to isolate the scent is so intense. Beer starts with a wine like taste and body. MIddle and end are thicker with dark malt. Giant alcohol kick at the finish. Gets tastier as you get used to the alcohol. Molasses and spice. Tasty but with a big continuing alcohol kick. If molasses was aged in wood with wine this might be what would result.

Unknown bottle batch. Deep dark brown, a deep murky mahoganey. The nose is not as pungent as some past batches. No worries, still has a nice floral perfume. Deep toasty brown malt notes with a touch of smoke and a drying oak nose. Less potent is the spicy incense of the first releases, the sacred wood mellows. Rich and full bodied with a syphony of flavors. Demurera sugar, dark rum, and malted milk tie into a spicy and floral palate. Toasted nuts and smokey toffe finish the beer of as the only alcohol presense is made known in the chest. Well balanced, well made. Not easy to find but a beer made for cigars, something with a Cameroon wrapper. Should cellar well for 2+ years. 94

Bottle: Weak aroma (typical of Big / Strong beers) this stuff is not for the beginners. strong, potent, a punch in the gut. Then mellows out and bring out all the floral, woody, earthy and vanilla flavors. flies like a butterfly stings like a bee. Drank in San Diego in ’09. Keep it up DFH.
