Something nice happening, but nothing spectacular, some roasted malt, quite soft, and seems less than the 12%. Pretty decent, but just didin’t strike a huge chord with me. Tasty though!!!! dnstone (161), , New Jersey, USA

Aroma has chocolate, nuts, and roasted malt notes present. Flavor is mostly sweet: Rich, sugary caramel malt. Mouthfeel and finish is where its really happening. Full bodied. Slick, creamy, and slightly fizzy with a malty sweetness that coats the tongue for a long time. Tweety (343), Vancouver, Washington, USA

The story behind this beer is better than the beer itself (Google the New Yorker story on Sam Calagione). l1br4r14n (275), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 25, 2009 Pours black with a thin light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, sweet malt. Flavors of chocolate, roast malt, vanilla, alcohol and a smoky finish. Alcohol is kind of harsh, but otherwise a fantastic beer that will age well. I’m sticking a few bottles in my cellar! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 23, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a large whiskey snifter. The beer pours a dark brown with very little head, likely from the long period of aging. Initial aromas throw some notes of wood, vanilla, and a touch of alcohol. As the sample warms, I got a lot more notes of malt complexity. The palate is extremely full on the tongue, almost too full. Up front, I got notes of malt, a touch of vanilla in the middle, and a lot of wood in the finish. Overall, I think this is an awesome beer, but at the same time, probably not a beer that you can have more than one of in an evening. sbroome (72), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2009 Bottle from GAManiac. Thanks, Grant! Pours a deep, dark black with a nice head of olive green. Aroma is plumb chocolate with a splash of smoky cherry. Hints of chocolate-soaked raisin, rum, maple syrup, dark chocolate, and a touch plumb mesh together to form a gooey glob of delicious. Thick, coating mouthfeel. A very nice and flavorful beer; I’d love one of these on a cold night.
