jerohen (1603), Bussum, Netherlands Mar 14, 2009 Bottled from Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. Very dark brown coloured, almost no head. Very complex nose, malts, liquorice, coffee, dark fruit, very nice. Unbelieveable flavour-development, initially somewhat fruity and malty, then the chocolate and coffee comes in, followed by a hopbitter flavour and finishing up with a lasting bitter finish. Although not really my thing this is a unique brew with an astonishing flavour development at every sip. Interesting. thefrutigers (100), , Arizona, USA Mar 12, 2009 bottle 12 oz: Pour very black with a thin almost no extistant head. Smells raosty malt, alcohol, and slight coffee. Tastes sweet with brown sugar and vanilla with a lightly bitter smoky wood toffee finish. I agree that this is a very interestingl and wonderful brew. askjaer (23), Frederiksberg C, Denmark Mar 12, 2009 Clear dark brown beer with a small tan head. The aroma is nice, starting with fresh hop aroma just when the cap comes of the bottle. Thereafter the smell is mainly of roasted and sweet malts, chocolate, wood with a hint of alcohol. The taste is complex, dominated by roast flavours with woody and earthy tones. In a good sense it reminds me of an old cigar box. The aftertaste is long and complex. The body is medium light and there is a good balance between sweetness and bitterness. You can sense the warmth of the alcohol. It is an interesting and pleasant beer. andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden Mar 12, 2009 Interesting beer with a nice meltdown of brown maltyness, oak/bourbon/vanilla/alcohol and light fruit. Aroma is a bit too "closed" and the body is a bit too carbonated and sirupy. Still drinkable for the ABV. sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black, very small tan head that lingered around the edges. Aroma is sweet malt, alcohol and a touch of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is sweet malt, coffee, wood, very faint touch of Bourbon and vanilla in the background. Very smooth for the abv. mattmc1973 (301), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Mar 11, 2009 12 oz bottle, poured into a snifter. Pours very dark brown/burgundy, with minimal head. Aroma of dark fruits (raisins and dates), very sweet malt, and smokey wood. Taste of vanilla, caramel, raisins and dates, brown sugar, and toasted wood. Very syrupy and smooth mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Definitely a sipper, but very tasty. BillWyce (90), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2009 Pours almost black with virtually no head to speak of. Sweet malty aroma with a pleasant vanilla undertone. Slightly thick, slightly oily, but not unpleasantly so. Lingering palate with a slight astringency. Malty sweet with a nutty character to it. Other notes that I had trouble separating out. Quite complex, hard to compare to anything else. WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Mar 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep dark black color with a minimal foamy head. Flavor is highly roasted, mildly bitter, sweet sugars, some earthy wood notes. Full bodied, sweet and sticky lingers on the palate. Interesting choice of wood to age this on, seemed to turn out well. Dogfish always up to something crazy.
